No you're not. The son of a wealthy local businessman decided to get married in the Napa Valley. Plane fare, (expensive) hotel rates, tux rent, etc was too much for my co-worker's son, who was asked to be a groomsman. I would've begged off, too. Sometimes people just assume way too much.

I agree. If you are having a destination wedding or somewhere that is far from either family/friends you should a) be prepared that not everyone is going to want to travel that much and b) know your potential wedding party well enough that you shouldn't have to put anybody in the awkward position of having to back out due to cost.

Saw the Grand Canyon my senior year in HS on a band trip. Coming from extremely flat Illinois, that was a trip. I forget which rim we were on, but I remember thinking "These rocky outcroppings on our side...those are real. The other side?? [Where you see all the different colored layers of rock] That's like a theatrical backdrop."

I've finished 5 episodes of Resident Alien. I'm really enjoying this show. So many fun characters.

A buddy of mine, who is a veteran rock climber, climbed the Devil's Tower in Wyoming some years ago. (This is where the final scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind was filmed.) He said that on the top, which is very flat, you can walk right over to the edge. He said he started to feel a compulsion to jump! Had to turn away before it got too powerful. That would be pretty creepy.........
A couple buddies of mine flew a small plane to a little airport about 10-15 miles from Devils Tower, with plans to climb it. They rode bikes into the park, and slept in the tepee the rangers have set up there. Next morning, they woke up to a bunch of tourists taking pictures of them in their sleeping bags.

They never did get to climb it -- rained the whole time they were there.

When I was photographing the tower at night a few years ago someone had obviously set up a hammock on the side of the tower and had a flashlight of lantern. I caught it in one of my shots

I wonder if the crews from the airlines that are now overnighting in Fort Dodge know the wonders of Taco Tico...

We are in the flight path, and used to hearing the smaller planes come over the house. Now that jets are landing, the noise is significantly higher. The vixen almost made a mess in her undies yesterday. :p

Had our annual meeting with our financial advisor Friday. We officially have F.Y. money now. I'm going to work another 15 months, then I'm out!
Happy for you. Sure it’s nice to have an end to the game in sight.

Told my wife that she needs to meet with the IPERS people next year to see options (she says she is retiring at first chance and she will have 5 years left to that after next year). All she did was ask why would she do that since she still would have five years left. All I could think was, well that way I would know how many jobs I would need to cover you in your retirement because your spending will increase during that time.
