Random Thoughts 15: Crystal Clear 2021 Edition

I am so frustrated with ESPN. My personal opinion is they have been trending bad for years with their propensity to miss action on the court because they have to do the hero shot of the player who just made a play or show the coach, the bench or the crowd while there is action on the floor. Or worse yet cover up the action with some advertising for a future ESPN game or event. Tonight's game was just about the last straw for me. They had to make the night so much about an Okie State player - who wasn't even playing - that they had to resort to a split screen so we could all see how well he wears his mask while trying to stay awake watching his team. I realize this wasn't a great game, but don't they realize that people who tune in do so to watch a basketball game not to get the thoughts of some C grade announcers on who is the overall #1 pick in the next NBA draft? At least pay a little lip service to talking about the game that people are tuning in to see once in a while.

The best thing to happen in the game tonight was Spatola's mic going out for a good chunk of the second half.

This is actually a pretty good assessment as to why I like Walton if there's going to be a commentator at all. Sure the guy talks about random stuff but there's also some great stories of older players and his playing days, and he shows full appreciation for the players on the floor just playing the game.

It's why I struggle with watching NBA games; seems like most of the conversation is about contracts and free agency.

Waiting for that last tax document. Every year I wonder why in the age of computerization why it isn't just a report that get's run and pulled in the first week of the year.

It irritates me that they don’t mention who fouls are called on or even talk about the game much. They run on about some tangent and you aren’t even sure if they are watching the game.

I've seen plenty of games where they also just stop talking and don't say a word for about 4-5 possessions. At the very least they could at least call the game, haha.

This is why I always have the ESPN box score open. It lags a few seconds behind the broadcast, but much of the time it's faster than the play-calling.

Or when a play happens and they show a replay from like 5 plays ago instead of the one that just caused the stoppage

Or the best is when they show the replay 4 times and then see a guy shooting free throws and you have no idea what happened because you missed live action for a replay

On a virtual meeting for the next 5 hours. Watching people, mostly 50+, try to turn their camera off is great pre meeting entertainment.
I had a meeting some months ago with a new sub-consultant. I knew we were in trouble when someone mentioned that we can see everyone but the new consultants. Our general consultant asked them if they could turn on their cameras. The response from "Harry" was: "My camera isn't working because I have tape over it." Harry's co-worker chimed in that she had tape over hers too.

Good grief.

Thinking I'll shovel the driveway to get my cardio for the day. Best idea worst idea? Probably 7 inches or so but it seemed light and fluffy.....

It was me last week. There was one step to starting the meetings that I didn't know and hadn't seen before.
Had to start a new Zoom account with my non-school e-mail, send the mass invite, and plug on from there.

Turns out that clicking the link is step one for WP. Then you close out the meeting, sign into WP's Zoom, bring up a list of your classes, and then a "start meeting" button appears.
It seemed like there could have been a note to let me know on that one, but there wasn't. I winged it and sort of muddled through.

I entered the Willie Wonka Golden Vaccine Ticket lottery for elder peeps this morning. I have a .8% chance of winning!

Well, actually likely much lower than .8% if you calc the one location in the Twin Cities and cities are 65% of state population of seniors, so more like the .015%.

On the bright side, Veruca Salt is only 63 so she won't be taking away your golden ticket.
