Random Thoughts 14: I can see clearly now 2020 edition

Need some input/advice from the sages of RTT: is an hour drive too far to expect people to go between the wedding ceremony and the reception? The church we are getting married in doesn't have much for reception venues nearby other than the fairgrounds and my fiancée's friend works for a really nice place that seems to check most of the boxes we're looking for in a venue. Only catch is that it's an hour away.

Ours was 45 minutes but a decent amount do in the area plus that's where hotels where and people could check in at that point. I'd be a hypocrite to criticize it.

I've basically dropped out ISR I can't take the beating I just pop into the last page of the thread read maybe give a like or something and leave. It's just a beating that I don't care about. The Hawks are pretty good this yr we're not I know that I don't need some freaking hawk troll to beat it over my head 24/7. Keep up the good fight BC,KC and any other RTTer's keeping CF safe.
Meh...I read a couple of pages every now & again - usually when I get a notification that someone responded to me. Other than that, ISR isn't really on my radar.

Walking into work with some Navy guys wearing an ISU coat.

"Oh we will wait for him he is an Iowa State guy! That's the engineering school." (Sweet so they think I am an engineer!)
Wx-"That's where all the smart people go."
Navy guy-"I am a hawk at heart but even I know that!"

I pretty much only stick with RTT and other off-topic threads. Anything ISR or basketball are hard to read and not enough football stuff going on right now.

The ceremony will be in Jefferson and the reception is tentatively in Nevada. So it would be an easy drive across Highway 30 and Ames would be right there for hotels. That's definitely a big plus that I think would make up for the drive a little bit.
Just make sure there's plenty of time between the wedding and reception. We'll all staying in @ImJustKCClone's house. If she can board 40 cats, she can certainly find room for about 20 RTTer's and their families.

See if @VeloClone still has his Iowa state Center keys. May be able to use Hilton, C.Y. or Scheman for a couple hours pretty cheap. Just get them in and out fast.
Sadly no. I did debate keeping my "Super" because they wouldn't miss it because it wasn't an official key issued to me, but that just didn't seem right.

Mrs. Velo and I did have our reception in the lobbies of Scheman. I was skeptical on the lobby thing, but it worked great - drinks downstairs; dinner upstairs; dancing back downstairs. No awkward moving people to strike dinner tables to make a dance floor. And our head table had Jack Trice Stadium (with Hilton and Stephens) as the backdrop.

Almost 20 years later and we still have people tell us that it was the most fun they have ever had at a wedding reception. <humble brag>

We had ceremony at St. Cecelia's so there wasn't really much of a trip to the reception. We weren't at it right away because we made a couple of stops in the limo with the wedding party. Mrs. Velo had to get a picture at the Campanile with her matron of honor in their dresses as well as one at "The Beach House" where they lived together for years. We didn't make our guests wait for long...and the bar was open.

As you wish:
today's word, meaning 1 - again does not apply to RTT posters. Meaning #2 - maybe....

I'm happy at my current job and not looking for a new one, but:

I got an email notification about a position with a newer Ag Biotech company that's open. To humor myself, Monday evening I applied thinking I'll never hear back from them.

Jump to today, they have emailed me wanting to set up a phone interview with their hiring manager to discuss the position, get to know me, expand on my work history, etc. (yadda yadda, the whole 9 yards)

I'm currently with a small, family owned company and have only been here a year, but after being victim to corporate downsizing 4 years ago, I'm a huge proponent of "watching out for #1".

If I'm offered this position (and their hiring package is incredibly hard to turn down), would it be a d*ck move to jump ship?

Today they just riffed about 85 people in the U.S.
I have been through so many of these I just expect it to be my turn one day. Turned out today wasn't my day either.
