anyone have an opinion on the very best radar/laser detector and scrambler?? Upscale auto place here in St Louis says "Beltronics RX 75 Plus" (remote) -- anyone know??

I hear if you put tin foil on your antenna it'll block all radar signals.

But it also....

1. Makes you less attractive to the opposite sex
2. Is a lot less fun
3. Is the leading cause of monotoneism (I think I just made that word up)

I think so too. But its ok. The dictionary cant have the same word count forever.

All they are good for is to tell you are going to get a ticket or someone has a alarm on. Save your money.

Radar Scramblers are illegal. Radar detectors are legal. (And totally not worth it if I might add.)

Disagree. If a radar detector saves you from one ticket, you are likely to recoup its cost (assuming a fairly decent one for $150 or so), especially when you consider what insurance will do to you for the ticket.

I had one for awhile until it got stolen.. you still cant be blasting down the roads at 20 over, but itll very much keep you from a 5-15 over ticket (which more often than not comes from just driving a comfortable speed on a road that was designed for that speed, but has the speed limit set arbitrarily low)

Here's the $1,000,000,000,000.63 question. Will a radar detector help prevent me from getting pulled over for my tinted windows?

OK -- I am running in a Car Rally -- there will be spot checks along the way on speeds (well below legal limit) and I want to be warned of these as soon as possible in an attempt to win the rally -- now does anyone have any useful information???

if theyre using radar, and its left on, youll be able to 'hear' them a couple miles out. if theyre using laser, they could just pop it on you as you pass and you'd have no way to adjust speed in time.

This is exactly what I have heard from various sources. They are getting better with tech to bypass your purchases. After all, they are trying to save lives out there.

yes, because setting the limit below the 80th percentile speed (the safest speed) is truly trying to save lives, and not just a money grab. For instance, there is no reason, with the wide lanes that it has, and relatively low traffic (its des moines, not chicago) that I-235 should not be 65mph all the way through.

Or look at the 'checkpoint' the police set up a week or so ago thats in the rag today. they pulled over 175 people and managed to find 168 violations. There are so many random money-grab violations now, that we're all criminals.

Easy fix: Don't break the law. I've been pulled over for speeding multiple times. Gotten 1 ticket. Deserve a lot more, and if I'm breaking the law and get caught, I deserve the ticket.

Its not the people that go 5 over I worry about. It the ******* weaving in and out of traffice at 10 more. I am perfectly aware of cops who pull people over for going 66 in a 65. Its unfortunate but it happens.

Damn the man...I avoid rockwell city because Calhoun sheriffs are dicks. I got pulled over once by a sheriff WALKING out of the Casey's there and he said I looked like I was going too fast, he gave me a warning. Not to mention I have gotten 3 tickets just outside that town, I live in Des Moines so that is quite the accomplishment.

Funny. Rockwell City is known for this by quite a few. My brother in law has gotten many there.
