Question on Wide Receivers

We do seriously need some playmakers at WR. Bundrage is showing he will be a key player going forward. We need at least 2 more big talent guys with some size to go along with him. I like our guys, but a receiving core with average speed, mostly undersized, and butter fingers is really killing us now that the OLine is blocking better and Jantz is bit more on point.

Agree. Seems like we run routes instead of trying to get open.
It's not intramural football - you generally don't have a "just get open" play called. The guys have to run routes in order to be where the QB expects them to be and make the plays work. That said, they should be athletic enough to be able to run the designed routes and get separation.

I can't understand what you could possibly mean by this. Do WRs not get open by running routes? Should they walk their routes? Should they just haphazardly run down the field? Should they just stand there? I honestly do not understand what your post means.

Our WR corps is not good at catching which is very frustrating and to some point is costing us games because it does not sustain a drive.

It doesn't help that it seems like all of our WR's apparently hear footsteps when they go across the middle of the field, even if those footsteps aren't there. Lots of alligator/T-Rex arms out there.

Blythe. Reynolds. Nobody in our WR corps has that go up and get it at the highest point ability like they did. Really wish we had a tall, athletic compliment to these gifted and shifty smaller guys.

Our receiving corps arguably cost us this game. Another awful performance out of that group. The running backs did some nice things, Jantz was making accurate throws all day, and the line was giving time. The receivers couldn't catch crabs in Sips' bathroom.

Yup, and several of the OU touchdowns today were TD's because of the type of play capability you are describing.

Lenz is also quite capable of that kind of play but has been hampered by the injury the middle part of this season.

That was an awesome day and helluva catch by Lenz, but Blythe could go up and make those types of catches 4 or 5 times a game. Not just a here or there occurrence throughout the season. Yes Lenz, when healthy, has the ability to do it here or there, but he is not a jumpball guy. I still maintain we don't have that guy that from 5-10 yards away can just go 1 on 1 with a CB and come up with that fade route. I feel like we are forced to come up with creative plays/routes to get guys open rather than just having an "I'm better than you at getting a jump ball" player.

I like Horne but his drop was awful and he shouldn't play on offense rest of the season. Lenz was unfortunate and West had made a bunch of catches in a row which unfortunately on this team seems to mean you need to stone hands one.

Bundrage will be the best receiver for the next couple years imo. We need a couple more of him.

I think this will be the last year of the Super Smurfs. I like Bundrage too and we will have Ecby and Daniels in the mix next year and Quan West and Patrick Harris coming off redshirts on the outside. Hope Quan's rehab goes smoothly. We will have Jarvis and Gary as inside guys. If we could land a guy like Ambles out of JUCO, I would take him, but otherwise work the youngsters in. WR is a spot where a young guy can play early. Will be an interesting spring seeing who rises to take the catches that Young, Lenz and Horne are getting. That's probably 80% of our catches that we're losing.

Cheers

Not sure if serious....
Horne was the only reason we were in some early games. The guy does need to pull his head out of his *** though.
