Purdy in the NFL

Purdy will be a good QB room guy, and a person a team will feel comfortable with in a backup role (knows he's got a good head on his shoulders, won't be a distraction, has great leadership qualities) but never a starter.

Wouldn't be shocked if he gets drafted somewhere day 3, however I wouldn't bet on it myself.

I think 5th round or so is about right.

Pros:

Consistently above average quarterback for all 4 years
Significantly above average accuracy
Fantastic feel for the pocket (he almost never gets sacked)

Cons:

Age (being drafted post-senior season)
Arm strength

There’s no way a team doesn’t take a flyer in him late. He’s NEVER going to be a star. Probably won’t ever even start a game. But he’ll be a guy coaches can trust to not go in and screw up if the starter goes down. And he’s a great leader and will be excellent in the quarterback room. I think that’s all desirable in a backup quarterback.

Very hard to predict if Purdy will get drafted IMO. I guess if I were forced to wager on it, I think there will be a team that gives him a shot in one of the late rounds.

IMO, his talent is not quite at the NFL level…. but a team cannot go wrong with giving him an opportunity because of his extremely high character, his competitiveness, his intelligence, and just the overall positive influence he’d bring on and off the field.

His game is borderline, but in every other aspect he’s worth being given the chance to prove himself.

I don't understand listing age as a con. This isn't the NBA.

I think he'll be a day 3 pick. Probably a career backup, which isn't a knock. In fact, probably the best job in football. Get rich and never take any hits. Maybe a Chad Pennington type of player as his ceiling.

Yes, and their recent run of quality NFL QBs such as DeShone Kizer, Jimmy Clausen and Brady Quinn.

Doesn’t matter. Notre Dame is Notre Dame. I don’t agree with it, it’s just the way it is. They just don’t draft ND QBs in the first couple rounds anymore.

A good player that is younger will likely be drafted higher than a good player that is older.

Purdy doesn't turn 22 until the end of December. The idea his age is playing against him, or any other player's age, is asinine.

1) I did not realize Purdy was still only 21, I had it in my head he was an older senior; my apolologies
2) Age DOES factor into a player's future potential in the NFL:

This is only for first round picks, but certainly an indicator that younger players have room more room for growth.

As noted above, I didn't realize Purdy was still only 21, so you can ignore the age part.

He's a great college QB but consistency, decision-making and arm strength are questionable. I think he'll get a FA opportunity after draft day but I have doubts he'll ever play.

UFA. I think he'll stick in some fashion, but anyone who thinks he has a chance at playing time isn't being honest with his abilities. He is a great college qb, but he is not winning any awards. There are only 32 starting positions in the NFL, and you've got guys with 20+ year careers as starters now. It is harder than ever to get playing time at that position.

Brock Purdy is arguably one of the most consistent QBs in CFB and his decision making has been great this year

The amount of disrespect that kid gets is amazing. He is 10 times the qb Rosenfels was and he played in the league a long time.
I genuinely almost feel bad for people who don’t realize how good Brock has been. And I don’t get how he can still be underappreciated.
Saying a player is a great fit at one level and maybe not the other is not disrespect, it's acknowledging the two levels look for different things. When Sage was in the league he fit the mold of what the NFL was looking for in QBs with his 6-4 frame.

Brock is perhaps the greatest ISU QB ever. That does not automatically mean it will translate to success at the next level and that is not a put-down.
