PSU Campbell Presser

A bit off topic, but JP said WSU's 4M buyout would come out of CJR's base salary. Any word if Coach Campbell pays for his?

Follow the thread and you wouldn't be confused.

My initial post that started this was to someone saying PSU has only had 3 coaches in the previous 60 years and that proves they are not quick to fire. I say that is a flawed stat because one of those coaches held that position for 45 years. Again, it's not like they had coaches who did 25 years, 15 years and 20 years to make the 60. They had one guy do 45, one guy do 2 and another do 11, filled in the other few years with interims. And the guy they just fired mid season took them to the playoff last year. If CMC took ISU to the playoffs, he wouldn't be fired mid-season the next year for a bad start. And he shouldn't be fired. Hell, he made it through 2022.

No, I'm not glad he's gone. What I'm saying is he had a lot longer leash at ISU than he he'll have at PSU, he's not going to get 10 years to bring them a Big 10 championship and a National Championship. He got us close, but we never were big 12 champs. He's not going to get away with ****** Special Teams play year after year and it costing him games like he did at ISU. Just because it took PSU a child rape scandal to get rid of Paterno, doesn't mean CMC will get to stick around for 15 years going 8-4.

And yes, I do think CMCs closer to a consistent 8-4 coach than he is a 10-2 coach. Even at PSU. I think that's awesome at ISU and I wish he was still here. I don't think PSU fans feel the same way.
If a longer leash is important to college coaches, why do you think they had a hard time filling that position and didn’t offer Matt the job before the BYU coach?

They've had 3 coaches in 60 years. They aren't just all of a sudden going to turn into a revolving door.

He'll be there for a long while and he'll do well.

They were ready to move on from bill o Brien after two years, and take out Joe Pa out of the equation.

Also, things have changed with their fan base.

Anyone else watch Josh Pate's interview with Matt by chance? Matt definitely throws JP under the bus in my opinion. Basically said one of the things he had to have at another school for him to go there was a place that would basically be progressive and creative in NIL.

Oh... and that the place he was going to had to have integrity.... :puke:. Matt also mentioned how much he admired JoePa.... more :puke:. I'm tired of his BS honestly... it's time to move on.

They asked that AD (?), the guy sitting next to Matt, about the coaching search... and omg... such a horrible answer. I guess he was honest about it, that it was a total sh*t show, and you could tell that Matt was like their 5th, or worse, choice.

Then I guess there was some awful video leaked of the AD talking to some of the players a little while back... and he also had to apologize for that. It was a total mess of a presser. Almost feel bad for what Matt is walking into... but not really!
Big boy pay, big boy scrutiny and challenges.

She may have received a degree from DMACC (I assume she was cumma something) instead but I think she went to ISU for at least a semester.
She graduated from Grand View. Im pretty sure she flunked out 2nd semester of her Frosh year at ISU. Im probably the only guy that took her on a date and didnt get laid.

Initially I was thinking Matt would have a ton more pressure there... but seriously... he has absolutely no pressure now that I think about it. He has more than enough money to never have to work another day in his life... and he now has how much more $$ coming his way no matter how poorly he does at PSU? He could go winless this year and not do crap... get fired... and how much money would he be owed when he got fired?

The guy has no pressure in his life. Pressure is the single mom who needs every single penny she makes... and then loses her job... that is pressure.

My good friend, a PSU alum who lives in State College, just told me one of the last questions at Campbell's PSU presser addressed the NIL rumors. Supposedly Campbell took a shot at JP saying how he and staff had to create their own NIL and do everything themselves. So it appears some of those rumors running around are based in fact..

JP needs to get his **** together regarding NIL.
That is not really how I heard it.

Havent read this whole thread, so maybe been said.

They had to create it here, because it wasnt a thing when they came to ISU. Everyone had to create Collectives and contracts and how it was done. So did PSU at that time. Sure he doesnt have to do that at PSU now because it is already done and set up. Same now at ISU.

Its a weird take that this is a shot at ISU and Pollard, but also a weird shot to claim that he had to do it all on his own at ISU and created it himself.

I really dont know how this was actually meant, but It was worded and taken out of the context that it was meant.

I would put bets on it that Matt is not the coach in 5 years. Penn State is just Nebraska 2.0. Hasn't won a thing in 40 years with expectations that are national championships or nothing.
Yeah but that contract is retirement money if it doesn't work out. He can coach the daughters SB team for free if he wants.

Jason Candle had his press conference today too as the new HC at Uconn, after filling Campbell's shoes (and bettering him a bit) at Toledo for the last ten years. I wonder why he made that shift. Maybe he sees the Big East as being more likely to make the CFP?
