If matt had the most resources in B12 I think we'd have won a B12 CCG with him, we were an eyelash from beating OU anyway without any equal footing.

Penn State won the B1G Championship in 2016 (Franklin's 3rd season). However, they lost to Pitt OOC and Michigan in the B1G. That led to the CFP Committee choosing Ohio State with only one loss (to Penn State) instead.

This stat is kind of flawed. It's not like they had 3 guys who did 25, 15 and 20 years. JoePedo made up the majority of those years and no one was going to fire him until... well. I don't like the logic that just because they kept one guy for for 45 years doesn't mean they won't all of a sudden make rash decisions. I mean they fired Franklin mid season, who's previous three seasaons were 11-2, 10-3 and 10-3 (with a CFP appearance).

I'd say the odds are that Campbell will be dealing with an AD/fan base/donor issue that's a lot closer to Franklin's tenure than Paterno's. I'd say Pedo State is definitely a lot closer to "Win Now or be gone." program than a "Let's Keep the guy 40 years." program. Hell, Franklin got the benifit of a few growing pains just for the aftermath of the Pedo scandal. I don't think they will can him for not winning an NC, but they aren't going to keep Campbell around if he's not solidly in the play-off picture most years.

I think CMC's biggest issues are going to be his game day decisisions, clock management, etc. (Sorry, I never thought CMC was a good game day coach.), his lack of emphasis on good special teams and those "In the margins" things that seemed to cost us games. Unless things drastically change, CMC is always good for at least one or two headscratcher games a year. (See Colorado this year.)

Many of us are around 50 and Iowa has only had two coaches our entire lives. A lot of that is just luck.

Their next hire when Kirk retires could be the Todd Lickliter of football and they could become a revolving door. Nebraska used to hardly ever change coaches too.

Facts. The current CFP arrangement you just need to be a top 4 Big Ten team to make it. At ISU you have to get around all the tie breakers and then win the conference championship game.

I am 100% with you. Going back as far as the MAC title game qualifier at home against PJ Fleck he lost right before taking the ISU job, it really came down to the more disciplined and maybe even talented team failing to execute (due to tightness), weird decisions to throw in situations where the run was clearly working, and messing up the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd, horrible punt return play.

If I recall, Campbell's team was leading in the 2nd quarter, botched a punt return, which led to a last minute go-ahead score for Western Michigan, and then on the first drive out of halftime, western put the game away on 4th and Goal. Toledo was in the top 25. Western was definitely not.

Campbell was not hired for the gamesmsnship: he is a vanilla, average play caller with clock management skills that have improved to average. What he brings to the field is great discipline and an elite culture and mindset.

I think that will fit and be welcome at Penn State at first, and I think he will probably do things like beat Ohio State on occasion, a la Michigan, but when he does that, they lose the title game. That is something we accept happily at ISU. I dont know if PSU is groovy with it.

Tech could win the NC in fb this year and Big 12 teams could start dominating head to head and the media would still be committed to the narrative that it's the fourth best fb conference (in reality it's very clearly the third best way better than ACC).

Your last paragraph is straight on. As great as Matt was from Sunday-Friday, and he was elite at building culture, developing players etc, he was still struggling with in game decision making that cost him wins when at Toledo and continued at ISU . “The reality is” if he doesn’t improve in game day decisions PSU will be similar to what Franklin brought. You could argue we under achieved 4 out of the last 5 years but Matt did get us the 10 win season we never had and for that I will always be grateful!!! Wish Matt and crew the best but time to move forward with Coach Rodger’s!

Because people don't give a **** about Texas Tech or any of the teams in the Big 12. Im a fan of a big 12 team and I don't even want to watch Big 12 games. They aren't appealing. Tech isn't good enough to win the NC.
