Misc: Pro Golf...Tiger Woods

His post game comment was topical with his Super Bowl reference.

“I’m just doing this so I don’t get fined,” Woods quipped.

Let's look at it from another perspective, he's been chipping and putting for 30+ years, a majority of that time brilliantly.

Don't give me that swing path bottoming out differently horsepoop.

You're either (A) a victim of super yips/washed up at this level or (B) insane

We'll see if the next step is "Well, the chipping has come back, if I just didn't hit it OB three times off the tee, I'd have been right there".

He was so embarrassed he didn't stay for the Super Bowl, that speaks volumes.

Well he can't find the bottom on his chips. That isn't really up for debate. It's a matter of why. He says motion, I say his head is so ****ed right now he can't do anything right. This happens to everyone who plays at a lower level and it's happened to pros before to a much lesser degree. It's really baffling to me, someone who plays 2-3 times a week and this happens once a year that someone who plays or practices every day has this happen. Then add on it's the guy with maybe the best short game ever that it's happening to. It has to be mental. So I think we agree there. I do think it's brought on by technical changes though. I think they have bled into everything by way of his head.

I'm a huge Tiger Woods fan, but unfortunately I'm also starting to come to grips that we'll never see the old Tiger Woods ever again.

I do think Tiger will get back to a competitive level again, just not anywhere near where he was. I don't see the love and the passion for the game that he used to have anymore. It now looks like such a grind for him every time he plays. He doesn't enjoy it at all.

Over analyzing every aspect of his game instead of just playing by "feel". He used to just go out there and tear it up.... shooting for every pin and laying waste to everyone. Now he's like a mechanical robot with no emotion, playing "safe" to the middle of the green, analyzing everything down to the smallest detail, etc.

He just needs to play in a LOT more tournaments IMO. Chipping and putting down at his home in Florida isn't working. He needs to just play.

I also got a bit of a feeling that he didn't want to make the cut at this tourney this weekend either. I don't know if he wants to attend the Super Bowl or not, some have indicated he's not, so maybe that's not it either. But the weather was crappy, and I don't think he particularly likes that tournament either. All the drunk fans that are just obnoxious isn't his cup of tea. Not making excuses, it just didn't look like he was enjoying himself much.... but when has he looked like he was enjoying himself playing golf lately?

I don't think I've ever seen Tiger look more relaxed playing golf. That's weird. If I would have told you 5 years ago that Tiger would shoot 82 and go to the media and crack a joke right away you would have never believed me. From everything i read and saw this week he was pretty chatty and friendly. I agree that this isn't a venue for him but I think that's part of why he was here. He didn't want to head to Torrey and have this happen there. It still might be bad but I doubt we'll see an 82. The other weird thing to me is that he drove it pretty well his last time out. he was awful this week.

I don't know what to make of this. He was awful and he seemed comfortable enough with it. Maybe he's just accepted that this is going to take a bunch of time and it will be bad for awhile, I don't know.

Something's up.

Weiskopf's course is decent but there's about a dozen courses worldwide he wouldn't have sniffed 90 with that display.

Tiger reminds me a lot of Ken Griffey Jr at this point. It seems like it is all there for him and all the reports are good, but when you see him play he isn't even close to the same. Griffey had the same thing happen to him.

I have no clue what is wrong with Tiger, but if I were him. I would go find someone to get my mind right and then go find a swing coach to get me the most sustainable swing I can get. Tiger's talent can carry him, he doesn't need to be the longest hitter he needs to be consistent.

Tiger says...."My glutes are shutting off. And then they don't activate, and then hence it goes into my lower back," Woods said. "So I tried to activate my glutes as best I could, in between, but it just, they never stayed activated."

Sounds like he may be visiting Lindsay too much.

The way he talks tells you everything you need to know about what's wrong. Everything has become a mechanical process with little in the way of feel. He wants to be robotic and as great as that would be, it's not possible. Until he figures all that out, his game will suffer. I have no idea what his coaches have been doing with him. His head is moving drastically backward which isn't good for your swing result or you back.

He played the game of golf better than anyone ever has. Even if he doesn't have distance he has enough weapons to consistently win. He needs to remember that and he needs to start playing golf instead of playing swing.

Tiger is taking a "leave":

Tiger Woods is taking an indefinite leave from golf, saying that he needs "a lot of work on my game."

Woods made the announcement Wednesday with a statement on his website.

"Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me," he said. "My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf. Like I've said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I'm ready, I'll be back."

So I gotta know, where Tiger's glutes activating last weekend, or weren't they ????

I thought that's what was going on the last 6 months.

I think some of that time was but they were saying that leave was for resting his back. It was being reported that he reinjured it from that really awkward sand shot. When he healed, he was then going to start hitting shots again

I suggest that he fix the angle of his driving so he avoids traps and rough areas.

Obviously not. The guy has more money than he has his great great grandchildren will need. He might have came to grips with he is not catching Jack, so the motivation that was driving him for the past 30 years is gone. He might just be tired and doesn't care enough to put the time in to being "Tiger" OR his body is so broken down that he will never be "Tiger" again.

If he can't compete at the level to win tournaments anymore, i am guessing he goes away. If I were him, I would just give up more "professionalism" and work on getting my amateur status back and play in all kinds of best shots and member/member tourneys. Just have fun in life, play golf have some drinks - hang with the ladies at the pool.

I remember seeing him hit tee shots at that "Hero Challenge" or whatever it's called.

He was swinging harder than Reggie Jackson. There's no way, considering the injury history, that he's going to hold up if he's continues going at it like that.

Tiger just shot a career worse 85 at a course he has owned in his career....yikes!

Until he wants to actually fix what's wrong with him on the tee, this is what he'll look like. You cannot squat in the transition like he does and hit consistent shots.

Yep, he has a bad 2 way miss on his drives. Just lost with that club right now.
