Absolutely agree! I went to the parade in Chicago a couple of times while living there and it was always a blast. And FYI, if you've never been to a Pride Parade in a major city, it's something you should do once. For a city like Minneapolis, we have one of the largest Pride Parades in the country where anywhere from 500,000 to 800,000 people line Hennepin Ave downtown. And it is a party. We tailgate like we do at Jack Trice, getting to our spot at 8:00 am and are there all day.
Kind of a funny story, my wife and I decided to take a weekend trip to Palm Springs in early November (2019). Figured it'd be quiet leading up to the holidays. We knew something was up when we got out to the pool early to claim some chairs and they were setting up a stage. A little asking around and we found out they do a Pride week in November there because it's too damn hot in June. We had a blast, but it was decidedly not quiet.
Funny story #2 - I worked for a small business for a summer in high school. The owner was a huuuuge Rush Limbaugh ditto head, social conservative, blah blah blah. Took his wife and the two kids to Disneyland (world?) for a weeklong trip that just so happened to be... Pride Week there. He was still beyond pissed when he got back, I can't imagine what he was like while he was there. Anyway...flash forward a decade or so and he's finished his transition and holding down the T part of LBGTQIA. Good for him on living his life as his authentic self, just kind of cracks me up thinking about how mad he got about it.
Point of the story - go, it's a blast. But if you're going to have a problem with it make sure to check your travel plans.
