Preseason AP Poll ISU Ranked 5th

ISU is scheduled to face the following ranked teams:

#1 Kansas (H & A)
#4 Houston (A)
# 8 Baylor (H)
#10 Arizona (H & A)
#11 Auburn (N)
# 18 Marquette (H)
#20 Cincinnati (H)

And possibly #9 North Carolina and #3 UConn, depending on how the Maui Invitational plays out.

Want to be the best? Then beat the best. LET'S GO!!!

I hear you but our success has put all our rosters on the radar for other teams/bagmen. Getting to this point is one thing, sustaining it is a completely different challenge.
That's not new. It's been going on for years now. Will McDonald supposedly turned down huge money to leave. Same with Rocco, Cooper, and a bunch of our other studs. In basketball I'm sure Lipsey and Milan could have made more money somewhere else. It could change, but so far the culture of those programs have led to retaining our best players at less than they could make somewhere else.

I'm not sure it will last but it's pretty incredible at this point.

Power One Basketball Conference

Make it a thing. Seriously. If they're going to try to railroad us in football do the same thing to them in basketball.

The entire reason the Big 12 is the best basketball conference with such separtion the past decade plus is because the cash conferences have purposefully passed on Arizona, Kansas, UConn, Baylor, ISU, etc and chosen some absolute $*** and average basketball programs for expansion instead for decades.

The $$$ leagues intentionally made the Big 12 Power One basketball. Take it, brand it.

They could have had Kansas, Arizona and Uconn. They said "we'll pass on being good at basketball, it's only cable TV markers and football brands" so they got historically awful basketball like Nebraska, Penn State, Rutgers, etc...

what makes you think it wont last? it has up to this point, so what do you foresee happening in the future to change that?
$22 million in shared revenue that we can't afford. Blum needs to double the $5 million from last year to keep everyone. That's not even half what most big time schools will be able to afford.

Calling it now 15-5 will win the conference outright.
Torvik has the following pre-season projections for the Big 12 (https://barttorvik.com/conf.php?conf=B12):

1. #1 Houston 25-6 (15-5)
2. #3 Iowa State 22-7 (14-6)
3. #4 Kansas 22-9 (13-7)
4. #10 Arizona 19-10 (12-8)
5. #15 Baylor 19-11 (12-8)
6. #20 Texas Tech 20-10 (11-9)
7. #27 Cincinnati 20-11 (11-9)
8. #28 BYU 20-10 (11-9)
9. #29 Kansas State 18-11 (10-10)
10. #49 TCU 17-13 (10-10)
11. #61 UCF 16-13 (8-12)
12. #69 Arizona State 14-16 (8-12)
13. #78 Utah 16-15 (7-13)
14. #83 West Virginia 14-15 (7-13)
15. #93 Oklahoma State 12-17 (6-14)
16. #110 Colorado 12-17 (5-15)

I like how the #4 team in the land is only third place in the Big 12, losing seven league games, and the #29 team is expected to be .500 in the Big 12. Brutal!

Sure, and that goes to paying the players correct?

As much as we don't get the benefit of the doubt in football as a conference, we absolutely do in basketball - and Arizona only makes this more insane.
While everyone else is bashing the Big 12 in football this year, nobody can bash how stacked the Big 12 is in basketball. We're easily the best conference in basketball heading into the season.

Glad to see a H & A with KU this year. Just didn’t feel right last year. Wish there was a way to preserve that even if it makes the schedule harder.

Yes and when Ohio State offers 4 times what we can, going to be an issue.
I understand that, but the revenue sharing does not mean that NIL goes away. I guess imo if a player is turning down more money to stay at ISU, i dont know if that changes as much. Maybe i am too optimistic here, as I am sure we will lose some but at the end of the day, these kids still want to play. Sure $250k is great, but if youre getting that to sit on the bench, how many players actually take that?
