Pre-Memorial Day Hoiberg NBA Update

Odd statements of denial from somebody that fancies themselves as connected. I love to criticize the media but they've been pretty conservative in reporting this whole thing, to be quite honest. If you want to pretend like there has been nothing to talk about, believe what you may.
Are you going to have a Post-Memorial Day update on this, J-Bone?
Or, are there really no new developments...

If you want to trade Thibs why would you let the other jobs get filled? I don't know basketball policy so is there a benefit to doing that?

Two reasons.

Smoke screens. If the teams want him they will up the trade offers because he isn't getting cut.

Or they just don't want him to go to another team right away if they can't get a good trade offer.

The Bulls might be the worst organization in the NBA to work for.

Nobody in Bulls country seems to like Gar Forman at all, and he's a good friend of Fred's. Don't think for a minute that if they bring Hoiberg in that they won't run him out of town along with Forman if this doesn't produce immediate results.

Theres examples of any scenario going any way. What's your point?

My point is that regardless whoever is the GM of the Bulls, there eventually became friction between the front office and the coach--every coach up to Doug Collins. It's the culture of management there. Jerry Krause was friends with Phil Jackson and Tim Floyd, where both friendships were erased eventually. Thus any friendship with Gar Forman will most likely be wrecked unless Hoiberg becomes a lapdog AND has success.

Wait, I thought Calipari tweeted that he was staying and had no interest in any job. Isn't that what everybody was lauding him for around here and lamenting that Fred wouldn't do the same? I bet they'd be happy if Fred tweeted that he was staying and then a week later was publicly linked to the job he denied interest in...
This is a perfect example of why Fred is in a crappy position regardless of what he says right now.

I was away from the interwebz since Friday night and nothing has changed.

So you mean I spent an enjoyable time away from CF and enjoyed my life and nothing happened?

DAMMIT I WAS HOPING THAT IT ALL WOULD HAPPEN WHEN I WAS AWAY!!!!

The problem is the Bulls front office has leaked so much hate on Tibs that it was a forgone conclusion he wasn't going to be their coach next season. The stupid bastards even kept the story up as the Bulls were still in the playoffs for crying out loud. Now they're shocked that no one wants to give up draft choices for a coach they've done everything but sign his dismissal form? Yea...really shocking. The Bulls front office is now stuck...they've shown all of their cards and as such they've got nothing left to bargain with.

There aren't many moves left that would be more ******** than what they've already done...but one of them would be fire Tibs and let someone now pick him up for free. They've evidently decided they've stomped on their own dicks enough this year and are going to let all these positions fill before they fire Tibs so they don't get 'out negotiated'...bad news fellas...that happened MONTHS ago.

They're now stuck...and we're now stuck. The Twolves thing is just another potential fly in the ointment.

Fred must really want in the NBA to work for this bunch...hope he loves it. But I don't see any NBA championships in Chicago with their current roster. I don't see a lot of help coming in with their front office full of dolts. And I don't expect the fans in Chicago to develop any compassion for anyone in that management group.

Remember...in Ames Fred is the mayor. In Chicago he's Gar's boy. It would be laughable if we hadn't watched this whole train wreck play out with Tim Floyd before.

I'd hate to see Fred give up his reality dream job he has now with ISU for a very tumultuous, short term dream job of the Bulls. Bulls recent front office relationships with coaches is a serious red flag. Gar Forman and John Paxton are toxic in their handling of coaches. Chose wisely Fred.

Fred is friends with them, so he doesn't have that rift Thibs does.

The Bulls organization is a mess. MJ fell into their lap and players wanted to play for Phil and with MJ. Those 2 made that organization look good while they were in town.

Tim Floyd's "friction between the front office and the coach" was winning 41 games over the course of 4 seasons...

Just throw all the moneys at Fred! Seriously, what are we waiting for?!

Go back and read Jeremy's post at the beginning of this thread. Donors aren't going to "throw all the money at Fred" unless they can also be assured that he wants to be here for the longer-term. JP is 100% correct. This isn't about the money--it's about what Fred wants to do. If Hoiberg decides to stay at ISU he absolutely needs to give assurances that he won't be flirting with the NBA every season like this. If he can commit and agree to a larger NBA buyout, then I have no doubt ISU (and the donors) will be able to find the money.

Yes I agree. Ante up if Fred is willing to commit. If he's not, throwing more money at him won't get us far anyway.

Iowa State's only responsibility here is to make sure a serious offer was made. For the fans peace of mind, Jamie should make sure that our so-called final offer is made with a big NBA buyout. Make Fred say no to it (and I think he would). I would have a problem if Jamie's only response was that he knew Fred wouldn't take any other offer.
