Gessel talking:

Not really? I think we would love to have that guy.

Not really as in there are not very many options from there. Assuming he does transfer, Devin Thomas would make sense, he seems to have the stat line of guys we would bring in. Under Hoiberg who knows what his 11 points and 7 rebounds a game could become

Will it? Custer is smaller and not as good of athlete, so he could have some adjustment to the above the rim game, like Gesell.

Have you seen Custer play? Just curious...

I watched the KS 6A championship game and was impressed with the way he could get to the rim and not only get his shot off but use both hands...he's crafty around the rim. He scored 25 points and was 9-12 from the field...they said the night before he scored 20 points and was 8-10 from the field.

Now I only saw the one game but he surprised me with his quickness and athleticism...on one play he had a killer quick crossover against one of BVN's best players to get to the hole.

I have, and like I said, I like Custer. Not enough though to say as a freshman Custer will be much better than Gesell. Those two are similar players, which imo is a good thing. That also means I think Custer will at times have the same struggles Gesell has had at times.

Please refer to my last post

Gesell was 0-4 for 0 points in the loss to Ten.
He was 0-10 with 1 point in the loss to NW
4-13 with 11 points in loss to ILL
3-12 with 6 points in loss to IND

He makes Aaron Craft look good.

Playing for Mad Fran will do that to ya! Gesell was playing scared the last ten games!

Would surprise me if we even considered Gessel (if he were to transfer), I think Custer could end up being better than him. Gessel is an average player, I can say that from watching him play 2 years of college ball. Custer has yet to play college ball, but looks like a leader and a winner from what I've seen. I think he has the tools to be pretty good in college. Can't believe posters are actually discussing this.

WHO GIVES A **** ABOUT GESELL?!?!?!?!?!

Yeah, a few HOKS might be available after this season... although Fred is a pretty decent judge of potential talent - so no.

Don't be an idiot. It was not about caring for Gesell, but rather caring about how good Custer will be or not be.

Gessell sucks. We don't need a below average B12 combo guard to sit for a year when we have Morris, Custer and 20 or so transfers that can play that role in between now and 2015.

Who knows I guess. Last year Cal was claiming his team was uncoachable. That they flat out wouldn't listen to him. I know we hate the guy, and it's easy to put blame on him, but he has an amazing resume. I can totally imagine a scenario where all these guys are too focused on putting on a show for NBA scouts that they refuse to listen to Cal.

Just the impression I got. I know it's not classy to throw your players under the bus, but when it's literally the best players in the country, it's not hard to imagine their egos being insurmountable.

Fred might be able to tame them. But I like what who we have been recruiting as transfers. They're all either --
1. Players who BECAME a star on a mediocre team/league and wanted to step it up
2. Players who got kicked off their team for likely stupid reasons (weed, or in Royce's case, false accusation) and needed a second chance

In both cases, you have humble players who are very thankful for the opportunity. In contrast, Kentucky recruits were told from the get go that they are the second coming, and were worshiped on campus, and think they're entitled to a national title just for putting on the jersey.

But it's not going to happen anyway, so I'll end the rant.

UK second coming means they will be back another year to prove their importance.
