I've always started taking Vitamin C when I get sick, and keep on it for awhile. Eventually stopping because I haven't been sick for awhile and forget about it. Then I would get sick again, and repeat.

Ever since COVID broke out, I've been taking 2,000 milligrams of it every day, and haven't had so much as a a cold. I'm not saying it's a silver bullet, but I've never been sick while maintaining a Vitamin C regimen.

Lack of sleep can be a real huge thing too.

I can't remember the last time I was getting a good amount of sleep and got sick. I'd say 90% of my colds are weeks I pull some all nighters working or traveling. I think the travel is more from lack of good sleep than catching something on the plane because the same thing happens if I skip sleep without leaving the house.

Yesterday US cases were the lowest since June 16th (date from covidtracking.com, which is continually updated)

As well as the lowest number of cases since June 16th, the US reported their lowest number of deaths in a day since July 5th.

I think we've so far avoided another false premature "mission accomplished" moment of late May/early June.

That's a big one too. I was really sick in February, and had some distinct COVID symptoms (cough + fever). Shortly before that I had stayed out until bar close with some buddies for the first time in awhile. I don't doubt that played a huge role.

Obviously I haven't spent much time in bars lately, but on the couple of occasions I've been up late, I make sure to go to bed really early the following night to stay on top of my overall sleep amounts.

My assumption is the weekend and Labor Day played a roll in the decrease. I would expect to see a large increase in tomorrows #s (hope Im wrong though).

Probably in the next two weeks.

Wisconsin should see a nice little bump as their colleges started back up.

The trend is good overall though for lower numbers.

Article discussing how little an issue covid19 has been in most of Africa. There are some theories, but the lack of deaths in a continent with extremely dense cities, high poverty and poor healthcare remains a mystery.

I have not read the article but this may be an answer. Malaria, lupus and arthritis drug is shown to reduce death rate in an Italian led observational study published in August.

Tuberculosis is pretty heavy there. May have already caught stuff that was similar

Agree, that is one posibility. Others I've seen discussed:

- Lower median age in African countries compared to Europe and the U.S..
- Possible greater prevalence of pre-existing T-cell "immunity" due to dense living conditions that cause increased exposure to other coronaviruses
- Greater average vitamin D levels (seems like this would be easy to prove/disprove but I haven't seen any studies done).

Update: Almost 26,000 cases reported from 29 campuses. Zero hospitalizations. Iowa State included in this list w/ 900 positive cases.

Dug a little more into Iowa State's numbers reported by the Iowa State Daily. Looks like 1,443 total cases, which includes move-in testing, athletes and 53 staff members since August 1st. No hospitalizations.
