Yeah I’ve been meaning to try Cava just never been close to one. And when I say ‘pricey’ I only mean relative to Chipotle (which itself maybe used to be slightly pricier that standard fast food, but now seems even cheaper than the typical McDs/BK/Wendys slop). If the food is good I’ll gladly pay a few bucks extra over other options.

20,000 sold in their first year so they must be pretty good. Gonna have to drop by on our next visit to Decorah and check it out.
I'd rather eat at Applebee's, and I don't want to eat there.
Actually I have no desire to eat at those kinds of places anymore, unless I'm invited. Applebee's, B dubs, chili's, olive garden, red Robin, just not appealing. Texas roadhouse is fine when you don't have to wait an hour.
Drives me nuts when close family give me gift cards to those places at a Christmas/birthday gift. Tell me you put no thought at all into it, but you really spotted it in a hyvee check out line.
Exactly this. My mom has a stack of gift cards to these places from Christmases because we all refuse to go there even when it's paid for, well partially.
Glad to hear it’s not just my family that does this. I come from a rural town where chain places were a novelty growing up. Getting to go to Cheesecake Factory in DSM during state basketball was a BIG deal. Hell, we went to Olive Garden for prom!
That’s all to say, I don’t think my family does this to be thoughtless. Rather, they do it because 30 years ago, I loved those places. Now that I’ve actually experienced good food, I have zero desire to go there.
We have told them for years we don’t eat at Olive Garden. But that doesn’t stop the gift cards from flowing…

I actually like Red Robin once in a while, and I like it even more if it doesn’t cost me anything. I haven’t been to Applebees/Chilis for a long time, but I’ll go there if I have a gift card.
Another thing in my part of the state, sometimes you want to get something to eat after going to/being in a show … Applebees might be one of the few places that still serves food that late.
Red Robin is good for what it is.
Kind of hits the Midwest spot between portion size vs cost with decent quality
The Midwest demands gigantic portions at a fair price.
