Players Era

I'd disagree with that take, I thought he looked like crap. Other than his 3 point shooting, he was out-played by our freshman in just about every aspect. Had a bunch of turnovers & got blown by on several occasions on D.
Agree. JD is a good shooter & I know there were probably more than a few here on CF that would have liked to have him when he transferred away from the Hoks. However, had that happened, I think his shooting % would've taken a big hit because of the energy that would be required of him to play good defense (if he is even capable of that). JD thrives in a finesse environment against similar teams - it's why CU was a perfect fit for him.

You conveniently left out another thing Vegas is known for. LOL
I was thinking the same thing. You cant go anywhere with out smelling it. I have no idea why you would go go vegas if you dont gamble or drink at all. You are paying a lot for hotel and such just to spend 2 hrs at a game and then sit around the rest of the time in your hotel room?

They have good concerts and comedians to go to. And you get the privilege of paying $40 for a soda at the pool.

There’s always the resident shows if that’s your thing.

Little tip, find a sportsbook and gamble on a few games and when you place your bet ask for drink tickets. They will give you free drinks for betting on games.

Yeah, I think this is probably the right take. The more I think of it, I’m leaning toward making a donation to WeWill. It won’t touch what they “lost”…maybe there’s a larger wallet out there that will feel the same way. I think you could have been justified getting to 20, but KU fouling to try to run up the score feels wrong too. I’d rather reward integrity.
I hope Tennessee rolls Kansas

I was referring to hookers lol

Do those guys still stand on the street corners flapping the cards with women on them trying to hand them to you? LOL

I like to people watch when I'm in Vegas.

If he does what you say he will have a lockerroom that cares about money first.
I think you play to the format you have. Also, to pretend money doesn't matter is absurd in this NIL environment. It matters. And for tj to imply it doesn't when hes making more than all the players isn't the best look.

Don't get me wrong, i love tj and think hes one of the 10 best coaches in ncaabb... but u think he played this one wrong.

Also...I made some good money betting overs and spreads this trny... because most teams were playing to max the point differential. Isu was the exception here.

You think this team is that shallow.

Last year there were a couple of guys that might have chirped. This bunch don't think so
This team literally has a guy who leveraged a move for more money. Tj also was concerned with it before the season. Which is why he had everyone write their nil values on a board

That's an opinion and it's fine. He was 6/10 from the field, with 3/6 from 3. 6 assists, 4 TOs. The only run they made, cutting the lead from 16 to 8, was all him. He will have a decent season in the big east. I'm certainly not saying he's better than Toure!

CEO??

This clown isn't even qualified to be running the old CIML Basketball Jamboree at the Knapp Center.
That’s a ridiculously off base take. They have built this tournament from nothing to the premiere in season tournament event in less than two years. Seems like they made some great moves.

Stipulating that I wish P4 teams didn’t dodge mid majors, if they’re going to I’d be okay with a huge multi week tournament in the future. It’d at least foster some goodwill among the P4 conferences, which is more than we can say about that dynamic when it comes to football.

My hot take is I’m fine with Otz “settling” for an 18 point win. If someone has impacted you at really any point in your career, you can understand how Otz sees McDermott. Or if you think that’s all sentimental BS, the bottom line is Otz is who he is and that’s not going to change. And he’s pretty open about his gratitude toward Iowa State and various people he’s worked with, so it’s not like his decision was out of left field. If St. John’s doesn’t score at the end maybe Iowa State is playing for additional money regardless. Or if they’d beaten St. John’s by 10 it also wouldn’t have mattered. What if they’d snuck into the third place game and gotten spanked by Tennessee? Drawing Syracuse is annoying, no doubt, but there are too many hypotheticals for me to lose sleep.

Speaking of Syracuse, at least one of them and Creighton should end up being a decent win come February. And you got a marquee win even if not. So while I would’ve preferred a different format I disagree that this was all a ruse and Iowa State should boycott. I would’ve been more sympathetic to that argument last season, but it’s hard to quantify how beneficial even just the first two games have been for the freshmen and Buchanan

Agree with this take ^^^.

I don’t personally love the format, but it is what it is. Great addition to the NIL coffers, great exposure, good experience for the team. If we come out 3-0 with Tamin only playing one game that’s a huge success.

My big issue with the format is not the point differential but the lack of transparency. There was WAY too much bad information online from normally respected media outlets an even official athletics sites for teams participating in the tournament. You have to assume that information came from somewhere reliable at some point.

Yeah there are some teams that are locked into tournaments. Houston, Kansas, Baylor, and Iowa State all have multiple year agreements with this tournament. Arizona is locked in to a different tournament for next year so they won’t be in Vegas even with a top 8 finish
They said Houston has a Sampson lifetime contract in the Player's Era. As long as Kelvin or his son is coaching Houston, they're invited.

The whole thing is illegitimate. Promise all this money then subjectively pick who even gets a shot to play for it.

Im just glad we have a coach with integrity that won't stoop to such lows as trying to run up the score on someone.

I think he played it right. He needs to talk about then team aspect. The easiest/fastest thing to pull a team apart is money. A coach should not address that in public or with the team. It’s an individual discussion
