Players Era

We have no one to blame but ourselves.

The tie breakers were very clear:
Overall record
Head to head
Point differential (20 max per game)
Total points scored
Total points allowed
AP rankings

If the tournament matters, then you score and run it up.

If the tournament doesn’t matter, then you dribble it out.

It would be interesting if we could get an answer from TJ as to whether he knew that they were competing with Kansas, Tennessee, and Gonzaga for one of those championship spots. Did he think that they had at least the 3rd spot nailed down based on the teams in our pod? Just wondering if this was just the fans that were left in the dark of the format or if the teams competing were also left in the dark. Cause the 2024 results clearly showed pod standings on their website.

Oh calm the **** down.
Yeah, we still benefited from being in this tournament even if we got ****** on our final matchup. Have you seen what all the other tournaments look like? This thing is a monster. Good for us to be part of it from the start and performing well.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but tiebreaker 1 was point differential. KU finished +21, ISU +19. Tiebreaker 2 was points scored for. KU 142, ISU 161. So if they took and made that last shot against Creighton our boys would be in the 3rd place game instead of Kansas.
Yes. But it doesn’t matter other than opponent tomorrow and game time.

I figured we were just first to announce. I bet the Big10, SEC, and ACC all get 10-15% and 6-8 teams too. With Big East maybe getting a smaller percentage and a guaranteed team or 2.
I can’t believe we are going to be stuck playing in this pathetic excuse for a tournament for the foreseeable future (top 8 Big 12 teams go in future years).

The organizers clearly changed the format from about a week ago when several outlets reported on first and second in each pod playing in the championship and 3rd place game. Then it now appears the pairings outside of those two games are completely random.

I would fully support us flying home tomorrow morning instead of wasting our time and risking injury and/or filing a lawsuit so discovery can happen on when and why the format/rules changed.
Pods were only for what arena you played in.

If there is anything about this event that is 100% clear, it's that the tie breakers were a total ******* enigma.

Hell, according to the Syracuse University website on event rules, ISU should not be playing Syracuse.
Syracuse.com is the Post-Standard website, not the university or athletic department. They would have had as clear of an idea of the tournament format as the other reporters that were in the dark as well.

Oh absolutely. After watching the exhibitions, I was very worried about this team getting blanked in this event, they now have a solid chance of walking away 3-0 - can't complain about that.

Did they get a little ****** in the last day seeding? Sure. But they are locked in to this event next year and with the new B12 contract guaranteeing the top 8 always playing in this for the next 5 years, there will be many more chances for ISU.

I don't see how this makes sense, even from Players Era's POV. If you're going to pick matchups with zero relationship to the standings, why not make the best games you can? And it's not just us -- Houston and Alabama would be a great game, but instead both teams are matched up against less interesting opponents.
They are lining them up in large part based on game time from today.
