Anyone know of a good place to live in Ankeny? I currently live in Clive, but I am most likely (my choice, 85% sure) going to start working out of our Ames office (as opposed to West Des Moines). I will be in Des Moines (east side) a lot for non-work related business, so Ankeny seems like the most logical choice. I am looking for a place that is reasonably priced and of reasonable quality. Any places you would recommend? Know of anyone who needs a roommate? I'd like to have a few choices. My current lease is up at the end of December and wouldn't move until then. Thanks a lot!

You could move into my place, but I am sure MrsBrianHos would not like that. Unless you like to babysit.

But sorry, I cannot help, I have not lived in an apt in 11 years.

Might be a good time to find a condo or townhouse. The Ankeny area is saturated with "for sale" listings. You could probably get a very good deal. I don't know the apartment situation very well in Ankeny, but we had friends who lived just west of Hy-Vee. They didn't seem to hate it.

Apartments in Ankeny are old and you will be surrounded by WT. Do not live in an apartment and do not by one of those Tritan townhomes.

Thanks for the replys everyone! I will not buy a townhome or a condo; it's my opinion they are a waste of money. If I'm were to purchase a residence, I would want a place with my own yard and no one on the other side of the wall. As for the Triton homes, I know what was used to build them and I will stay away.

Brian, I'm gone too much to be a reliable babysitter

Yeah there are tons of houses in ankeny to rent, find a roomate and rent a house!

This housing bubble has to be great for renters.

If you're aiming for an appartment I lived in Wanda Manor for a year (moved out this past April to move into a house). They are newer, pretty big and nice enough. Only pay electric and rent. Heat is free. Some units have washer and dryer hookups. Biggest drawback in my opinion is that the A/C unit is just a wall air conditioner that doesnt really succeed in cooling the back bedroom. The unit I rented was $700 a month, with one huge bedroom with a huge closet. And a small bed room.

Don't move...stay in Clive and drive to Ankeny. It's not like its that far.

Yeah but he is going to work in Ames. Thus Ankeny is much easier. That is why we moved to Ankeny, I was working downtown, MrsBrianHos was working at Mary Greeley.

$700 a month? My mortgage was only $795 a month.

Property Taxes, insurance, all utilities, maintenance, down payment? I know what you're getting at. My mortgage is much more than $700 but that was with 0% down...for some people it isnt feasible to buy. Townhomes and condos seem like they would fill that gap but a lot of people just hate them in general, plus the resale has to be terrible.

I work in WDM, wife works in Ames. Ankeny is a great place to live for us.
Really like our Rottlund Townhouse, but our family is starting to outgrow it. I'm a big fan of living maintennance free. And its nice to live at the intersection of 2, (1 for the nest 2 years) golf courses.

We live in the far North edge of town.. about as far north as you can get. I work in Ames/Story City and it makes the drive relatively easy.

Dont forget they are adding another exit ramp onto I35 at the golf course on the north end of town.

Brother if you buy a condo/townhouse i will beat you down and banish you from hanging out in my east side neighborhood!!! lol

Banish him from the east side. I thought you were trying to talk him out of buying a townhouse there for a second.

Times have changed big guy, I think I live in the same neighborhood as you do and my mortgage is around 1400 bucks I think. I'd have to ask my wife though.
