Pick the winner Baylor vs. ISU

I'm not sure where these prognostications of winning by four TDs are coming from. We haven't won on the road in 3 years. I can't see us winning by more than a single touchdown. I'm anticipating another high-scoring, competitive evening, just like the last two weeks.

I'll go with 35-31, good guys.

ISU 31 Baylor 17
I really felt we would beat KU last week, and I was almost right. One of these times we are going to play 60 min. and somebody else is going to have a bad day. my prediction for the rest of the season after saturdays game was that somebody is going to lose to us that isn't supposed to (not talking about the huskers either that one is in the bag) just not sure who it will be

I hope the Clones actually play for 4 quarters this time around. Especially on the road. (We just can't seem to win on the road...) Since we have done none of the above this year it is going to be a struggling game again for us...

With all that being said here is the prediction:

ISU-56
Baylor-3

Baylor needs a win desperately. Coach Briles will have the team ready and the Bears have enough athletes/weapons (Griffin, Wright, Finley, Sanders, Smith, Gettis, Akers) on the offensive side to score points. Iowa St has a good team and will be a tough opponent; like Baylor they play hard and fight 'til the end. I can see either team winning this game but i'll give the edge to Baylor at home.
Bears 27
Cyclones 24

Both teams desperately need a win. I think both teams have probably circled this date on their schedules as their best opportunity to pick up a badly needed Big 12 win, so you can probably expect both teams to be getting after it pretty good. It should be a competitive match-up. I'll be there to cheer on the Cyclones! Thanks for the non-db prediction, Balding.

Welcome to CF, BaldingBear. Rational posts like these from our fellow Big XII fans are always welcome here.

How is Baylor's defense this year? I know they have a stud at LB, but other than that....?

Nah... I was kidding about the score before.

We just struggle on the road...and 4 quarters hasn't happened in a while. Still, this is the game to turn the tide.

Clones in a Squeaker:

ISU 23
BU-20

We've never been decent? Really, that's interesting. We were very good in the 1980's and early 1990's. Ranked in the top 10 at least 3 times during that period that I can remember, maybe more. Beat LSU, Arizona, Colorado in Bowl games that I can remember. Beat number 3 ranked USC at USC. Gave Texas the worst beating they have ever had by any opponent in Austin 50-7. I believe Texas never beat Baylor in Waco in 10 tries under the Teaff regime. They may have tied us once at home.

Yeah since we joined the Big 12 we've struggled but before that we were very competitive in the SWC.

Just going to point this out but Baylor has never been a good team, so when you get a decent quarterback in your eyes he is amazing.(I've seen him play too, he's not all that and a bag of chips) Yes he will probably become a great quarterback when is Junior/Senior but not now. Besides we just played Todd Reesing, one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, and shut him down for the first half. If we play like we did against Kansas in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th quaters there is going to be a major beatdown.

Joe Pawelek at LB should be All Big12 1st team, he is always around the ball making plays. Jordan Lake at safety is another solid player-possible All Big12, known as a very big hitter. On the DL the top guys are Jason Lamb and Leon Freeman, they have done the best so far this season getting pressure on the QBs, which overall has not been as good as we'd like to see. Other than those the LB unit as a whole is very solid (Pawelek, Jones, Patin, Johnson). CBs are the weakness so pass defense has been bad but run defense is pretty solid.

While we are living in the past we should mention that in 1957 Baylor beat previously unbeaten and #2 ranked Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl. Sic'em Bears!

Oh yeah? Well... we came within a pylon of coming within 1 point of #3 Florida State in 2002. But we didn't and we lost. But we still pretend like we should have won that game. So there!

Sorry, just had to

Hmmm, let me finish my kool aide real quick. Now that its gone, Ill say, ISU 31 Baylor 24. Something tells me that we will FINALLY break that nasty road loss streak.

Grant Teaff, left. Ever since he quit coaching we've had nothing but a bunch of bad hires. IMO, it's all about coaching. I don't care what school it is. I remember ISU did very well under Earl Bruce. I believe ISU can compete in football just fine, they just need the right coach. Hopefully you have that with your new coach.

In the late 1980's and early 90's Texas was horrible. Nebraska sure isn't their old self and who ever thought Kansas would be winning in football!! Or Baylor in men's or women's basketball!!! I remember how horrible Colorado was in the 1970's They didn't really turn around until the Mid 1980's. And of course the Hawkeyes sucked under Cummings (sp?). Love how the Hawks always think they have been the greatest. Well I know the truth.

Whoever thought the Hawkeyes would suck so bad at men's Basketball? Again, Lute Olson was the reason they went to the final four in 1980 but after Lute left they haven't been the same. Little ol' Baylor would clean their clock in both football and basketball yet those Hawk fans would still be acting like they were the king of the world.

Anyway, we beat No. 3 ranked USC (Sean Salisbury was QB) in 1985 in LA, we beat LSU in the Liberty Bowl that year pretty handily and we whacked UT in Austin 50-7 in 1989. We beat BYU in Waco in 1983 when Steve Young was QB. The next year BYU won the national title and they killed us in Provo in 1984.

My point is these things run in cycles. No one stays on top forever. Remember when Miami and Florida sucked in the 1970's too. Everyone forgets that, and of course Alabama seemed unbeatable for such a long time. They are on the rise again of course but they went through a long dry spell.

Wow! Didn't know that. WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?!?!?!?
