What Phil did yesterday was historic, and the crowd following him up 18 will be an awesome memory of this tournament that will last forever. The video of Phil walking up 18 with the crowd behind him will forever be a classic that will be played for decades to come.
It was fun, it was spontaneous, and it was well-deserved for Phil and good for the game.
I don't think the crowd walking behind him is the problem. It was the crowd surrounding the green before the players even got there, requiring them to fight through the crowd.
I see both sides. On one hand, I don't see the masses wanting to crowd in to see Kevin Streelman tap in to win the PGA Championship. I think this was probably more Phil related than anything. However, if you set a precedent that you can just surround players and make your way up to the 18th green, I can see drunk fans in future events feeling they need to do the same.
They always let fans walk behind up 18 at this course but this time they instantly lost control.
The world is definitely not used to dealing with crowds after the last year.
Between that and the lady just picking up Phil's ball it was essentially a Happy Gilmore gallery out there yesterday. Which, for the record, is not all bad.
Exactly, a similar thing happened in 2018 with tiger woods. People wanted to witness history. It also gives a side of golf that rarely gets seen. Pretty sure this is as bad as we will ever see the gallery get unless somehow Tiger recovers and wins another major, but if this scenario plays out, they should be relatively prepared for it.
What irritated me more was the number of people in the gallery holding their phone in the air trying to get their bad picture or video of this like there aren't dozens of cameras capturing it from every angle. You are lucky enough to be there witnessing history. Put the phone away and enjoy the moment. Then go home and look at just about any news source if you want to see pictures and videos.
And with a terrible goatee, guy had literally no chance.
Go watch old footage of the Open. Fans walking up 18 used to be standard. It’s fine happening for special occasions like Phil or Tiger.

Walking up 18 is fine, but yesterday was beyond what is typical. While Koepka came off as a bit whiney I see his point. Guy's coming off knee surgery and was at risk of getting banged around a bit.
It's more like constant knee surgery.
That big post onto the left knee has pretty much destroyed it.

Yes; he's favoring the leg even when he scoops from the cup, but I'm gonna give props to the 51-yo guy w Moobs who is out driving DeChamb' and Brooks.
Yeah, I watched the dollars slipping away yesterday as Books kept missing putts, while Lefty (formerly known as Hefty) was chipping in and making long putts. I thought the crowd was pretty much in Ryder Cup mode, with war whoops, screams, and the ever present "Get in the hole!" screams on par 5 holes by the overserved fan.Had to laugh when the woman grabbed the ball and then dropped it when she realized it wasn't a souvenir she could keep.As a guy that has $$$ on Koepka I hope this is the jinx post I needed.
But yeah I think Phil is going to get it done.
I don't think my Homeowner's Liability would cover me in this situation....and there would be major damages !
