Pay TJ

I’m more worried about losing assistants to other opportunities (eg head coaching gigs) given ADs know very well it’s not just the head coach responsible for these kind of turn arounds on the floor and on the recruiting trail. The entire staff will and should be getting attention from other programs (albeit not Big 12 level).

Getting TJ paid is not going to be a problem. The numbers our donors have been prepared to pay CMC and were willing to pay Fred will keep TJ here.

I thought this too initially but think this team thrives with no lead singer as Holmes said. If you had a lead singer who demanded shots, not sure Gabe, Grill, Holmes are as dynamic as they are.

Heck, this team has better better without Jaz. I think that's a coincidence but we have pared down our roster which seems to have streamlined things.
I think this was a blessing and a curse with IB last year. Absolutely loved the guy, but we relied on him too much. Once teams had a scouting report on him it made things really difficult and there were way too many possessions where he was getting the ball late in the shot clock and being asked to take low percentage shots.

Thankfully he was able to meet that challenge a lot of times. But it’s not sustainable over the course of a season even if you’re an elite talent.

Gotta get past the Prohm contract as well. That will free up more money for TJ. I'm not worried.

How many threads have been on this site making fun of ADs that give raises and extensions to coaches early in their contracts only to have that coach obtain mediocrity or worse? (Exhibits A &B = Fran and Frosty).

TJ loves ISU and Pollard will do what he needs to do to keep him.
Texas does it all the time. With the amount of money the Longhorns are paying former coaches, we could renovate Hilton by now.

TJ did more last year than Fran, Prohm, Mel Tucker, or any of the other examples being thrown around did easily. 2-22 to Sweet 16 and now a 4-0 conference start despite the issues we had in the offseason is way above the line of just throwing money at people.

While TJ wasn't my first choice, I am thrilled with the job he has done.

His teams are fun to watch, and take what they can.

Run and gun? Slow grind? No problem.

The players almost all seem like fine young men that you enjoy cheering for as well.

That makes a huge difference.

Compare what TJ has done with probably no NBA talent to CMC with multiple NFL skill players.

Agreed, I'm waiting for the thread someone starts to announce the six figure donation they made to "pay TJ"
Done. All six figures were right of the decimal, though. I don't think it helped. Might buy him a burger though.

I think we are fortunate that he would rather be here so we should be ok.
BTW, I think there's a good chance he's well better than Orr.

I'd keep an eye on Valpo. That job is definitely coming open, they just hired Charles Small as AD and Kyle Green's reputation in the Valley is about as good as it gets.

I don't, realistically, see any other Valley jobs opening this year and I don't think Kyle would take a job outside the midwest or at a low major.

Hooray! Things are going great with the basketball team so let's not enjoy it by re-hashing the same **** over and over!

Or worse, Prohms 6th place finish in the Big 12 with 6 NBA players in the roster

Only four players on that team recorded NBA minutes.

Haliburton is Godzilla stomping on Tokyo now -- but he was an 18-year old (barely) puppy at the time. I'm not sure you can compare baby Haliburton then to NBA stud Haliburton now.

Horton-Tucker has played 3,430 NBA minutes, but he's never been more than a back-of-the-bench guy in terms of his productivity. He benefited from the perception of "upside" that never materialized and being signed by the agency that LeBron is a shadow investor in (as well as de facto Lakers' GM).

Shayok played in four NBA games for 28 minutes and 11 points.

Wigginton played in 19 NBA games for 199 minutes and 80 points.

Both were (at most) "cup of coffee" guys.

Nick is playing in Europe. Jacobson somehow ended up on a NFL practice squad. Lard is... Lard. Those seven were collectively the rotation that season. I don't know where you'd get six somehow.

That team wasn't somehow overflowing with NBA talent. And the NBA talent that it did took the form of two of the youngest players in college basketball that season. Sixth wasn't great and I'm not saying that I was satisfied with it, but we collectively got an undeserved ego about ourselves during the season.
