Absolutely no ill will for Paul. The dude loved ISU. He put us back together after Chiz tore us apart. I would welcome him back anytime.

I hope there is no hard feelings either way, but as others have said I am sure him still coaching is the main reason he is not around at all, and hasnt been honored etc.

Mac's involvement is mostly his choice, he is willing to be and wants to be, so the program embraces it. But you didnt see that when he was focused on coaching at a different program.

Paul I am sure is putting that focus on where he is currently coaching too.
I think it is a little revisionist to say Chiz tore us apart. He just was always a touch and go and his opportunity came. I honestly believe a Chiz coached team would have done well that next year, the talent level had been upgraded significantly. I don't like him or his lack of integrity as a person, but he left ISU in a better place than when he got there. Paul could motivate, but getting talent was an issue, and poor little ISU attitude, although founded, was too much. Some great wins along the way but not sustained. Left the program in worse shape than he inherited it in the end. As far as ever coming back, that can happen perhaps when he retires, but maybe not until his very successful replacement moves on. So I guess I hope that never happens.

Mac didn't come back much if at all until Campbell, so not unusual.

I agree, Chizik brought talent at the minimum. He left more talent than what he had taking over after McCarney. The 2007 team was horrendous in September but made a lot of strides that year kinda like Campbells first year. The 2008 team though was just so bad, especially defensively. I think had Chizik stayed we still would have had a new DC replace Wayne Bolt.

Edit: actually forgot he was already demoted before Chizik left.

I was not saying Chiz tore us apart, being only in the quality of recruits/talent. He tore us down, had 2 terrible years, then stabbed us in the back. He may have started to bring in some talent and try to build something but he gave up on us and the team. It sucked for the fanbase, it sucked for the program, it sucked period.

Not to mention he is a monumental Dbag.

He wasn’t going to work out here. The when and how that relationship ended was ideal

Of course it was ideal, which proves my point on this that he was bad for ISU etc. I dont think I said that it wasnt ideal to get rid of him, though at the time, I dont think people thought it was ideal.

Good riddance to Chiz.

Maybe you didnt read the post tree on what I was saying prior to this.

JFK Quotation: "When we got into office, the thing that surprised me most was to find that things were just as bad as we'd been saying they were."

This reminds me of CMC’s commentary.

I feel like something that often gets ignored is that during his tenure, Rhoads had the most success with Chizik’s recruits. The talent level definitely improved thanks to Chiz.

I was also in elementary school when Chizik left and Rhoads was hired so maybe I’m remembering this all wrong

Why would he need to mention Rhoads?
Yeah, I mean Paul was ok , but what would we honor him for? He was nearly 20 games under 500. I think we have evolved past honoring coaches like this. Some good moments, but some god awful as well.

In November 2026, you could honor him and some of the players who blew up the BCS when they knocked off Oklahoma State.

You could even have him make an appearance at the Ames Texas Roadhouse where his image is still painted on the wall. :jimlad:

Fair enough. I didn’t mind him, but other than the Okie State game and Nebraska give away, his tenor was pretty flat. The “rah-rah” stuff only goes so far. I will say that “just wanting having a coach want to be at ISU” was big.

There should be no hard feelings from Paul. He was rewarded well for what he provided.
