It's been a couple years since I've been to a game and parking seems to be a lot different. Not wanting to spend a lot of money for parking and past experience tells me even if you pay it is not likely to get a spot if you don't plan on tailgating several hours before. So I'm looking at campus and walking to the game. Do the lots around Lied and the greenhouses fill up quickly if we get to town 1.5-2 hours before the kick or should I plan on looking farther away?

I personally like parking south of highway 30 and walking the Vet med Trail to S 16th. Especially if I'm not tailgating. Bonus is it is very easy to leave after the game. 
Brook side park is a good place to park. It’s a little walk but usually pretty easy out to the north. Parking over by the Gateway hotel is also not bad but it is a walk.
When I don't ride up in a vehicle with a parking pass I always park in the neighborhood just West of Beach. 1 side of the roads is free the other you'll get a ticket that I believe is $40.
Ames did raise the ticket to $75 dollars, but that is still cheaper than most of the parking by the stadium. I don't know if they tow.
We live by the mall in north Ames. We park in the haunted forest area for games. We can get out and home in about 5 minutes or so. Then again we normally aren't in a hurry to get home unless it is a night game.
Got ya. They won't tow unless you block a fire hydrant or driveway. I lived in that block my entire time in Ames and had plenty of friends get tickets staying on weekends and whatnot but never towed. Parking cops were out there regularly on the walk home from Welch when the legal side of the road switched at 2AM
If you plan on doing street parking west of the stadium, those do fill up fast, showing up an hour or so before the game will not work. There is a church out to the west that has paid parking, past the softball fields and the old towers, south side of the road. I would guess its about a mile or so walk, but many cut through yards once they get down towards that stadium.
Hey so we haven’t been to a game in a couple years as we live out of state. Can you still buy parking on S 4th street just east of the bridge or in haunted forest or do we need to buy beforehand? What’s the cost on those. Trying to decide if I need to buy a parking pass now
Can you just pull up to Haunted Forest with cash and park? I tried to read their website, but it was nebulous on how it worked for just a single game. And how much is parking there?
