Parking for Saturday

For someone who doesn't come down to Ames very often (giant house divided), we were hoping to park somewhere around G8, we have parked there before and it works well, not quite as close as we would like but oh well. If we show up at 5:30 a.m. you think there will be any spots left? Is it easy to save another spot next to you for somebody? Seems to me some of the lots opening at 5 a.m. seems like a slight overreaction to Gameday. 3 p.m. kick 6 a.m. seem very sufficient in my mind but what do I know.

Can't wait for this weekend.

I would think there would be spots still available at 5:30am and no, it's not easy to save a spot next to you and for this game and the amount of traffic, it'll be impossible.

Drove by the the lots east of university and South 4th. North side lot had a truck driving around in it. Looked liked he was just checking to see the condition of it. Haunted Forest looked a little muddy toward the front. That ground is so compacted it doesn't take much for water to pond there though. When it does rain its just a greasy mess. Everything looks really good for parking South 16th lots are in great shape also. Just hope the rain stays east of Ames this afternoon. Can't wait for the cold front to move the and drop the dew point and humidity. We need some south wind to help things dry out.

I was thinking about coming up Friday to check out the Gameday setup and just walk around JTS, where would be the best place to park for Friday? Would be getting there around noon. Thanks Go Cyclones!

Probably mentioned in this thread...

There is a ton of 4-hour street parking about a 1/2 to 1 mile west of the stadium. They were basically all full for last game. Were these 4 hour times enforced? We decided not to risk it but clearly thousands did. Just curious how that panned out.

TIA.

7-day_observed.png Looks like the whole area got 2"+ but less than 4" by 7am this morning(since the rain started Sunday). But less than 1" inch of that is within the last day. We did have a couple showers this morning so maybe 1/4" more than the above image. None of these amounts are very concerning for the lots being ok on Saturday. If it's only a 1/2" or less this afternoon I imagine we'll be just fine.

Games like Saturday it would really be nice if the university allowed parking on the east side of the street off of beach. There is plenty of room on the parking, between the sidewalk and the street to park vehicles there. Easy way to make another 5 grand or so. But as usual they will put up signs that say No Parking, and anyone that does will be towed.

I've been asking that same thing for a number of years. They used to do that in prior years, don't know what happened. It was a great tailgating atmosphere!

I've been to Clemson before. They have painted lines and numbers all around the shoulders of the roads and even around the edges of the golf course. It's crazy there! The Esso Club there is also historic place that started in the 1920's from an old gas station. Pretty cool place to visit if you every get the chance to go there.

Maybe they see it as there is plenty of parking. It’s just not as convenient as some people want it for this game

The Esso Club was awesome. We stopped in there the friday before the game we attended a few years back. Clemson had a beautiful campus though slightly spread out more I felt.

So you are saying "lets not make it convenient for the fans to attend the games." I kind of thought that the whole purpose of the program, was to encourage people to attend and cheer for Iowa State, instead of staying at home and watching it on their 65 inch HD TV.

If we continue to have a successful program and attendence continues to build then the university is going to have to come up ways to make that possible. Parking on the west side of the stadium is a short term approach, but one that could be done easily and cheaply.

A long term approach is a lot more difficult. Maybe encourage parking at the mall and then bus people to the stadium, park them on the cross country course when the ground is dry enough, and bus people from there. In the cesspool called Iowa City, they park people on the golf course, west of the stadium. Purchase the old K Mart lot, and use that as parking, but do something.
Hate to bring it up again, but they should have used the intermural fields east of the stadium for parking and moved those fields somewhere else. But that is a now a dead solution.

Are there a bunch of Ubers/Lyfts around Ames on Gamedays? I need to get to Huxley for the game but want to tailgate.

Will I be looking at ridiculous surge pricing ?
