Parent-Taught Drivers Instruction Advice

Same here. My daughter did the AAA class over the summer and it seemed fine. Like you said, just had to make sure she kept on it. I used the Road Ready app to log driving . Basically just had her drive me around all summer and logged it and used that as a reference to fill out the official log on the website. I submitted the course completion and driving log on Friday. Hoping they accept it in time for her driving test on October 7th.
I just uploaded the PDF the road ready app gave me and they took it. I had another dad tip me off on that and on the make sure you put atleast a little detail each drive

Looking for some feedback on this for any parents that have experience with it. There are 6 pre-approved courses on the Iowa DOT website and I was curious if anyone has had any they would recommend or avoid based on their experience. Thanks!
Both my kids did the AAA one. The biggest pains were the driving log and harping on the kids to get their online coursework done in the allotted amount of time.

We've used Safe2Drive with 2 of our kids and doing it for the 3rd time currently. Agree with others just document your driving hours. We've had no problems. Our oldest 2 did driver's ed thru the school and honestly, I had more peace sending the younger 2 out on the road by themselves. You have to log more hours and know what they've learned! Just an FYI, the student will have to do a driving test with a licensed official when they get their school permit or license. We've just scheduled it at the courthouse before we go and it's been no problem.

We did it with our two oldest (16 and now 15 yr old girls). I wouldn’t do it any other way. We got to do the driving lessons on our own time and it worked out for our busy schedules. Cost was cheaper than what you normally see too. It was a retired state trooper out of Marshalltown (I believe) that did it and he came down to Ankeny to do the final test. Nice guy too. PM me if you want details/contact info.

Zero chance I will be partaking in this activity. Either my daughters or I won't make it out alive.
I taught our oldest two, but when it came time to teach our youngest I was frazzled by the experience. I told my wife I will teach him the basics, but you are going to have to do the driving with him. She must have done well, he navigates the traffic in Dallas every day.

Don't know about what's out there for the whippersnappers, but I highly recommend the AARP Defensive Driving Course online for older drivers to refresh their skills. It may also qualify you for a discount on your insurance. My policy doesn't do that, but I just wanted to review some of that stuff from Drivers' Ed which I took in the last century.

Anyone can take the course, even though it targets drivers age 50 and over. The course is $20 for AARP members in Iowa and $25 for non-members.

I think anyone could benefit from it. For example, one of the stoplights in the nearby town is flashing red at a four-way stop these days. You'd be surprised (or appalled) at how many drivers have no clue as to who goes when at the intersection. Shocking.
Didn’t click on the link. Does it include roundabouts?

I don't remember. I've lived in Europe, so no sweat for me, except when I say "rond-point" and expect monolinguals to know what I'm talking about.

But hey, happy birthday...

First snow find a rear wheel drive car, a huge empty parking lot, and learn to steer into slides. If said student passes, give them 5 minutes of doing insane donuts.
