OWH Article on Stevie Hicks final days

Five-star writing as always from the OWH, but wow... that was a very sad article. Painful to read.
Its so hard to believe how everyone goes their own ways after college, and while everything may have been fine for them in college, you wonder what they are going to when its all over. Seems you lose touch with most of those close to you in college whether you want to or not.

You're absolutely right, 33. While we can't keep in contact with everyone you were close to in college once you all graduate, we can translate that to the people we do see more often. It's so important to really pay attention to those around you; care about them and listen to them, rather than just waiting for your turn to speak. You never know when taking the time to sit down and ask how somebody is doing is going to be exactly what they really needed. This just underscores that even more.

very sad.stevie was a good kid and a good athlete.
our list of great players that are deceased keeps growng;
ennis haywood-who pased away after training camps with the dallas
cowboys-
dexter green who played for earl bruce
dave hoppman- a 2 time all american tailback with clay stapelton.hoppy was killed in a head-on crash in florida at 30 years of age.
let these good athletes rest in peace and god bless stevie hick's family during this christmas season.

That was one of the saddest things I have read in a long time. What a horrible ending to someone with so much promise. I think it goes to show that college athelets, especially football and basketball, are not prepared to enter the world after college. They all think the pros are a sure thing. They need a plan B.
Sad. The worse part is he was asking for help but it wasnt known until all the pieces were put togther and it was too late.

That one hurts. He made it known what was going on. Ouch. I'm not going to be harsh with his family, because they probably were totally shell-shocked by the entire situation. I can't imagine how they feel at this time.

SAD story... my last post got deleted for some reason, but really sad story. Wish he could have seen all the things he could done that still involved football. (coach, clinics, etc.)
Folks - you just never know what is in the deepest recesses of people's minds. Some things get displayed on the surface and we all question ourselves after the fact about what we could have done.
My sister-in-law put a 9MM to her temple a few months back and took her life. The aftermath of the family and friends perceived guilt and wondering, and the loss of that person are huge burdens to carry.
I just want to say that no matter how many details are released, no matter how many "facts" we know - we really don't know anything. We can only support. My thought and sympathies go out to Stevie's family, friends, and teammates - and of course to Stevie.
