OU's Lon Kruger Retiring

I remember when he played for K-State in an NCAA regional in Hilton. Big 8 player of the year. Kind of an unusual team and that long eyebrow was different. But a good player, for sure. Coached at Pan Am and might still be at K-State if he hadn’t run into personal problems there,as I understand it. Calm demeanor on the sidelines. Did not do well coaching Hawks in the NBA. Quite the resume.

One of 3 coaches to take 5 different programs to the Big Dance. That's pretty awesome. I always admired Lon, he always seemed under control, and his players seemed to genuinely like him. And, he won.
And the only one of those 3 to win at least 3 tournament games with all 5.

I remember when Johnny told me that Lon was a great coach...though he didn’t understand his career choices at the time.

Johnny hated Illinois with a passion,

I was just listening to the CBS CBB emergency Shaka Pod and they mentioned Lon was planning on retiring next year but move it up due to his son getting the UNLV job.
Jamie was next level on hiring Otz and getting Lon out. ;)

Good luck to Lon, always respected his teams. He has earned to leave on his terma.

Personally, I'd like to make Moser say no but thats not our AD style so I expect McCasland

IU would do well to bring back one of Knight's guys like Woodson, Lewis, or Alford. They've tried the Johnny-come-lately route with no success.

I listened to Dakich (I know, he's a dope) say on Dan Patrick that IU needs to hire Alford. Those 2 (Dakich and Alford) are peas in a pod. Bad peas.
