Enjoyed the Fanatic information on Otz's contract. Shoot, I remember when Johnny Orr came to Iowa State for $45,000 and thought he broke the bank. Both coaches were/are good fits, I believe.

I think Johnny's total income was around $110,000 to $120,000. The $45 was the base and then you add tv, radio, camps etc.

Otz’s contract is embarrassingly low. 25% lower than anyone else in the Big 12. Glad we could get him for that but this lowballing is a cheap strategy in my opinion. But if he succeeds, Pollard has proven he’ll get them more in line with Big 12 averages.

I agree with you. Hopefully, there is a serious bump a year from now because of positive play this year.

JP can only work with the hand he is dealt and does a hell of job. ISU just doesn't have enough big time donors.

I’m ok with it. Put up or shut up. Jamie will pay him if he wins, history has shown that he will.

It's not that low considering his qualifications.

Im okay with it to especially considering the circumstances. And it’s not like we were attracting any big names for the job anyway. But the “cheap” strategy is a gamble (especially if we ever have to replace Campbell). But I trust in Pollard. But paying your coach 25% less than anyone else in the conference doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in our commitment to basketball.

That $45,000 was the best money ISU ever spent on basketball.

With the 2 buyouts Prohm's and TJ's. I think it is a fair contract. Heavy on incentives and I'm good with that. Also your final sentence is 100% accurate.

His contract is a combination of him betting on himself, his buyout, Prohms buyout, Iowa State football, covid, and him wanting to be here. He also likely took a little less for himself to pay his staff a little more. I think he’s confident in his ability to win here, knows JP will pay more when the wins start coming, and the media contracts will be renewed in the next few years likely adding to the budget.

If Otz agreed to it, why are people B’ing that we are going cheap. Apparently TJ was satisfied with it or he would be at a different school. Do you also complain that your ribeye only cost 30 bucks at a restaurant and and tell them to charge you 50 for it?

I can sum it up for you. OPM (other peoples money)

The thing is that people (not fans) were still complaining about him being paid to much.

I just thought it was funny that I knew that was cheap and then saw people complaining it was to much. Then you complaint it was embarrassingly low made it even better.
