OT: Random facts that really surprised me

one i don't understand is there is a halfway point from A to B. So if there is always a halfway point are we ever really at our destination?

Similarly, I had a friend who always said, "No matter where you go, there you are." He would get frustrated when I would ask, "So, where are you when you leave there?"

Of the 706 survivors of the Titanic, one became a principal at Ames High.

Probably pretty easy to get any job you want with that on your resume.

Small minded friend....if his theory is true, the answer to your question is "There...duh...aren't you listening?"

Random Fact that really surprised me:

That somehow humans became the dominant species on the planet rather than the Shoebill:

Yeah, that is pretty much what he would say. Then, I would say something like "How can I be 'there' if I just left 'there?'" Ultimately, I would win because he couldn't keep his cool.

-The oldest living civil war vet lived until august of 1956

-It's nearly impossible to fold a piece of paper more than 7 times in half. Go ahead and try it.

-As the crow flies, Nebraska and Florida are only 757 miles apart.

-If people lived on stars lightyears away from us and could see earth, they'd be looking at dinosaurs.

-The distance flown by the Wright Brothers original plane was shorter than the span of a 747

-Lake superior is big and deep enough that its volume could cover North America with a foot of water.

-The two people in the "American Gothic" painting by Grant Wood were actually strangers to each other. Wood just liked their features and used them. They never posed together for the painting and didn't meet until sometime a decade later.

-Hitler's mother was talked out of an abortion by a Jewish Doctor....let that sink in...

-801 Grand is taller than 30 other states' tallest building

-The Colorado State capitol uses the world's known amount of Rose Onyx

And furthermore, if it was possible to fold a piece of paper 42 times (it's not) it would be a big enough piece of paper to reach the moon

The Hitler one is dubious, at best. It's been kicked around for years as a legend, but there's not any evidence that it's true.

The bolded is pathetic. Des Moines needs a real skyscrapper not a half assed attempt.

If the sun was the size of a white blood cell, the milky way would be the size of the continental United States.

The size of the universe has always blown my mind.

- The first American film to show a toilet on screen was Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho
- If you put your finger in your ear and scratch, it sounds just like Pac-man
- Maine is the closest state to Africa (this blew my fragile mind)
- Russia has a larger surface area than Pluto
- Hippo milk is legit pink in color
- The heart of a blue whale is so big that humans could swim through the arteries
- Not ONCE in the entire Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme does it ever mention he was an egg
- A strawberry isn't actually a berry...but a banana is...and so are avocados and watermelons
- The difference in time between T-Rex and Stegosaurus lived is greater than the difference between T-Rex and now. WHAT!?

An anagram for "Adam Woodbury" is "A Dumb Doorway" which is probably how DeAndre Kane thought of him in this gif:

I'm confused. Why is being taller than 29 of the other state's tallest building pathetic? Considering the Des Moines metro comes in as the 90th largest Metropolitain Statistical Area and Iowa ranks 30th in states' population, that is pretty good. 801 Grand is taller than all of the buildings in a lot of cities higher on that list.
