OSU v UM Axed

I really can't wait.

12 games vs 13 games...yeah we really can't tell if the team with only 12 games is actually good

5/6 games vs 11 games...oh we know for sure the 5 game team is awesome compared to 11 game teams

The CFPC might as well be a mob meeting.

I found a picture of the CFP committee meeting. Here it is --

CFPC needs to do the audible here. Take 8. Use the other New Years 6 as quarterfinals, jump a week to the semi's, then a final week to final game. Put in your 5 Power 5 champs and 3 at large.

Call it a day...
Was thinking the same thing myself...it only adds two more games. And then keep it that way...

I think 8 is the way to go but I don't like calling an audible here just to bail out OSU.

Paging Gary Barta... "Gary, How come Ohio State deserved a playoff spot over X, Y, and Z, considering OSU's minimal games actually played?" Gary Barta, "$".

The 6th game is only for eligibility to play in the Big 10 championship. If they play Iowa, it would be on the same day as the Big 10 championship. While a 6th game and win would help their chances of making the CFP, there is no minimum game requirement to make the playoffs. They will get in with 5 games anyway but would be fun to see them play Iowa.

Kind of goes against the "13th Data Point" excuse that they used to keep TCU/Baylor out a few years ago. Comparing 8/9/10 game teams versus 5 is kind of disingenuous.

Bingo. Go to 8, have 5 auto-bids, then 3 at larges determined by the highest ranked non-auto bid teams in the BCS ranking system.

I think the sports media likes it this way - it’s more dramatic, gives them something to talk about, and they can cover for the corrupt committee to get their favorite brands into the playoff for the best TV ratings. It’s trash.
And, in the scenario where the B1G lets OSU into the CCG (& they will "kill" their opponent), make them face Alabama 1st round because they are the team with the WORST resume - so they are forced to play the best team! I know it will NEVER happen - but that is what SHOULD happen in that scenario.

I honestly don't see how this is a resume of a top 4 team in the country:

Beat Nebraska 52-17 who is currently 2-4
Beat Penn State 38-25 who is 2-5
Beat Rutgers 49-27 who is 2-5
Beat Indiana 42-35 who is currently ranked and 6-1
Beat MSU 52-12 who is 2-4

So their 5 wins come against teams with a combined 14-19 record, take their only win against a good team out and it that is 4 games against teams with a combined 8-18 record. I get it, they had 3 games canceled on them which sucks for them but they can thank the Big 10 leadership for that situation but I don't see how the CFP committee could possibly put a team that has played just 5 games and 4 of those against teams who have losing records into one of the top 4 spots. I won't be shocked if they somehow do though. If you allow tOSU to play in the conference championship game then Wisconsin probably has a beef with that if they beat Iowa this weekend and Northwestern loses. If by some chance the Big 10 allows tOSU to find a non-conference game to play Nebraska will be pissed because they were already denied that too.

If tOSU got to play 8-10 games this season and were undefeated there is no doubt they are talented enough to make the playoff but how do you leave out a team that is knocking on the door of that 4th spot who has played 8-10 games and discount the work they put in playing almost twice as many games? This isn't even lobbying to say ISU deserves that spot because we have 2 losses and still have to beat OU but you have a 7-1 Florida team and 8-0 Cincy team that have a good argument they they have proven more than tOSU has.

Yep. I can see the argument 'they played who was on their schedule', but you can make that argument every other year for G5 teams that go undefeated.

They won't do this as it shows we should always be able to do an 8 team playoff.

It's not a unilateral decision to go to eight teams (particularly since the four team format runs until 2026). You would need approval from each conference representative. I'm not saying it couldn't happen for one year but that would be challenges being it's mid-December and bowl games start in a couple of weeks.

Incidentally the Big10 representative on the CFP board is the Nebraska President.

Who could have seen this coming when they tried to pack 8 games into 8 weeks in the middle of a pandemic...?

Pure idiocrasy from their leadership.
My favorite part - all the predictable media outlets congratulating the little b1g for sitting out during a pandemic. Then when they decided to jump in pointing out their inherent advantages over conferences like the Big12 with all the med schools they have. Then pointing out how they wouldn’t need built-in off weeks due to their stringent controls like their every day testing and 3 week quarantines. I’m glad they tried to play the moral superiority card and it blew up in their face.
