I watched to the OSU/UNI dual. Their announcers (coach Miller and ?) overall did a better job. More exciting and overall knowledgeable of in-match action. While I appreciate Kroeschell he’s too monotone and his call style is too a “history class” heavy. My solution would be to replace Kroeschell with Jim Gibbons or have all three of them. Make Kroeschell more of an “on the field announcer” if you will... maybe post match interviews, “behind the scenes” reporting.

Kroeschell just needs to focus on specials for Cyclone TV. Live broadcasts just don't fit his style. Kyven is fantastic and would be great with Jim Gibbons or someone else.

They have a kid on staff. During the wrestle off there was a young gentlemen who filled in for Tom. I believe he was in the marketing or communications department. He and Kyven had great chemistry. I believe Kyven slipped at one point and said something to the effect of 'I'm not used to this'. Wish I could remember his name. Have been saying for years that as much as Tom loves ISU, he is a detriment to our brand as an announcer and needs to go.

his name is Brad. He’d also be very good as a replacement for Tom

This is a good point. It’s a style thing. I’m not gonna rag on the guy. He clearly loves cyclone wrestling probably more than many of us. But the point remains that a change would be beneficial.

  • Cons. Round 7 - Lachlan McNeil (Wyoming Seminary, PA) 6-2 won by fall over Kysen Terukina (Kamehameha (HI)) 6-2 (Fall 4:17)
  • 7th Place Match - Kysen Terukina (Kamehameha (HI)) 6-2 won by decision over Carson Sauriol (Poway HS (CA)) 3-3 (Dec 6-4)
Interesting 1st round match. I think he got to the tourney late because of flight from Hawaii and got placed against #1 seed right away

Dresser was out there watching Ryan Anderson and I mentioned Kysen to him and that he was Shayden's brother who wrestled at Iowa State. So he got to watch him tear through the backside

Although it is not absolutely necessary, he probably has never wrestled a match in his life. His idioms are reflective of an amateur in the sport and get in the way of me trying to enjoy the broadcast. We are trying to build a better culture for ISU wrestling and as the poster indicated, Kroeschell is a detriment.

The people that mentioned it in this thread are the guys that are in the know. I think it’s safe to assume Mackall is no longer with the program

Not The way anyone wanted it to go out for him. He had a lot of good moments for ISU. Wish that kid that best.

Mackall is still on the roster on the Cyclone.com website, but I heard he is dealing with some stuff and a redshirt senior getting beat out of the starting spot by a true freshman is hard on the senior and the family.

It seems Mackall was working pretty hard in the off season.

With the Covid rules I don’t know what’s possible but would he be a prime candidate to transfer?

No idea. I hope he stay a Cyclone wrestler. Weird year and next year will be also with nobody losing a year and another class coming in and budget restrictions placed by the school on allowable scholarships.
