We used to go to my father's parents on Sunday evenings. Seems like it would be Ed Sullivan followed by the Smothers Brothers show. ….
We used to watch Ed Sullivan. There is a good chance I saw every Smothers Brothers show, which, like Red Skelton, was pretty funny for kids.

They were eventually canceled by CBS because they were political and after several warnings from the CBS execs and not changing they dropped the hammer.

I recall that.

I’d be pretty sure that I saw The Who’s My Generation performance where Keith Moon had too many explosives and it caused them to go off the air. Just watching TV that night though you wouldn’t have known that.

I remember and liked folk music on the radio at that time and earlier, like The Smothers Brothers played.

That clip was in the Who documentary full length theatrical release (late 70s I think) called "The Kids Are Alright." I saw it in Ames at the theater there in campustown. I also purchased the soundtrack, I think it's two vinyl discs.

The pyro at the end was about 100X more than planned for.

I'm going to totally break the rules and post something related to the fair but not an act that played there:

I am fully expecting the banhammer for this.

Me too. … This first song, Isn't It Kinda Fun, is from the 1962 movie. I believe it was filmed at the 1961 Texas State Fair. It heats up some after 2 minutes.

Pat Boone played the Iowa State Fair in 1973 and 1977, which brings both of our videos above under the rules.

He played the farmer’s son, the guy in the car in your video. In my video, like yours, you can also hear him singing. He is the guy in the crowd in my video, and I think also the clown on stage, both.

Another trailer …

Red Skelton, the comedian, whose show I used for two Beach Boy clips above, like The Beach Boys, also did a Grandstand show at the Iowa State Fair in 1979.

I've come to appreciate The Wallflowers more after listening to Jakob's solo stuff from over 10 years ago (featuring Neko Case). They were on some morning show this past spring/early summer and it was really nice.

6th Avenue Heartache is one of the best songs of the 90s.

A former coworker of mine years ago worked for Pat Boone at his Branson theater. They used to golf together most afternoons before heading to the theater.
