The Oak Ridge Boys recorded this first before Garth made it a big hit
Callin' Baton Rouge is one of my favorites songs of all time, ever. Maybe #1. I did not realize that it was a cover. It's good, though the Garth version is still my jam.

Both versions are great, done a little differently in style as the Oaks have the 4 part harmony and bass line and Garth sped it up a little more when he covered it. The ORB recorded it in 1978, Billie Joe Spears recorded it in 1980, New Grass Revival recorded it in 1989 then Garth recorded it in 1993 and made it the big hit everyone first thinks of.

The only version I knew was from New Grass R.New Grass comes to mind first. Our GM played the fiddle and loved New Grass Revival.
We had to play that thing every morning.
Every. Morning.
