Both versions are great, done a little differently in style as the Oaks have the 4 part harmony and bass line and Garth sped it up a little more when he covered it. The ORB recorded it in 1978, Billie Joe Spears recorded it in 1980, New Grass Revival recorded it in 1989 then Garth recorded it in 1993 and made it the big hit everyone first thinks of.

Got to see John Cowan sing Callin' Baton Rouge at a John McEuen show this past year.
I saw New Grass Revival in August 1986 in Grimes IA and was blown away by how good they were. Too bad they didn't stay together.
