Ohio: Game Thoughts

I thought that too.

Looked like if he had just paused a half-step for whoever was (sort of) blocking for him to get out ahead, he would have beat that last guy and taken it to the house.
Johnson came SPRINTING down the field to try to get a block. I think he wanted Reeder to score more than Reeder wanted to himself.

No. Perkins is taking too long to get the punt off. We will see more punts blocked during conference play, I guarantee it
Yeah, I have to agree with this. Even holding onto the ball for a split second too long is the difference between a blocked punt or not.

He needs to speed things up or we'll see more blocked punts, and those can be game deciders.

Jaylin and Xavier were having an interaction with Reeder later after that play and it looked like from their body language and lip reading they were giving him **** for not scoring. They were all laughing. It was hilarious

I’d hate to lose him, but does anybody else think Cook probably moves on after this season? Like to FCS or G5 or somewhere?

I hope not. I know we can’t judge a book by his cover but there’s no getting past that Rocco is not the biggest guy out there. I think it’s a good idea to have some good depth.

Wasn't a le to watch but really like numbers from the score to the stat, and it sounds like there's enough things that still need work.

If you're a coach it's a really good situation with what can be a real nice team.

Injury status? Which player came out in the 1st half holding his helmet with both hands? Any other dings?
I may be wrong, but wasn't that Malik Verdon?

If it was, at least he came back later, so that was good to see.
Also really wish we could have Reeder for more than one year. Kid is special.
And so is Johnson, yes. But Reeder is fast becoming a fan favorite. So glad he found his way to Ames! One year only is too bad, but we'll take it!

The players like him too!

If he wants playing time, then probably. I think UNI offered him out of HS, so I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up there.

It will be hard to win games with special teams as bad as they were yesterday. It cost us last year, it will cost us again this year.

I don’t know if McDonald is being double teamed because we don’t have Enyi this year, but it’s concerning he hasn’t been super prevalent through 3 games.

X is putting up numbers, but what happens when teams start to pay special attention to him?

I'm guessing this is what ISU hopes for and that answer is being saved for the next phase of the season.

Otherwise you keep going with it until they can stop it.

Agree on ST

Teams are paying special attention, but that just means more room for other guys. We have been too reliant on forcing it to certain guys in the past, but that could have been a Purdy thing.

Shaw, Noel , Stanley and Bitter are all good enough to go off if defenses are helping on X. Plus the 6 TEs and Brock/Sanders out of the backfield

Actually I think there was a hangover - it just didn't show up on the scoreboard. Especially with the way Campbell was not happy with the performance in the first half - and we were up 30-3.
I think the hangover trickled to the fans too.

while the size of the crowd was great particularly with the threat of rain, I thought we were rather docile.

I recognize Clone fans typically don’t scream much when we are on defense but even when prompted to help out on third down we were still a little quiet.

Hopefully we ramp up against Baylor. Particularly whenever Baylor is inside the 20 on either end.

I'm still not sure moving the student section was a good thing for stadium noise. they are further in the corner instead of stretched along the side. I realize for selling seats and field storming the move was justified, but for fan experience I really don't believe it was a improvement.

Yesterdays 39 yarder I think has been the longest though it looked like he probably would have made it from 45 at least.

Part of that, too, I think, is that there really haven’t been many places to try a long field goal this season.

The opportunity never really came up against SEMO, and then wet fields against iowa and Ohio probably from a mentality standpoint, isn’t the best place to trot out your freshman kicker for a 50 yarder (unless it’s a must make like iowa had at the end of the game against us).
I disagree, I think you missed one. I remember there was an opportunity for about a 48 yarder fairly early against SEMO. But no way you give that to a freshman kicker as his first attempt in his first college game ever. Even more so than in the next couple of games.

Yeah, I sit in Sect B across from where the students used to be. Its a lot less exciting/loud on the north end now.

I wonder if they could put half the students in the bowl corners, and half in like Section 40/Z. You'd get noise from both sides but then maybe less critical mass. IDK
