NFL: Offseason Thread

The league is handling this so stupidly. They never should have said anything from the beginning. Just ignore it. They've only made it worse.

The Packers financials that were released show the league is doing just fine, monetarily, despite what people would have you believe. This controversy is only hurting them to the degree that they let it. They never should have responded.
The NFL could have easily turned it into a positive and failed. Individual owners could have done something with their franchises and all failed.

Maybe if they would have addressed it immediately, a couple years ago. But once battle lines were drawn, there was no way to come out a winner. If they allow the players to kneel, one group will be angry. If they disallow then, then another group will be. There's no way to win

I agree, once multiple players got involved the NFL should have stepped up. Instead that idiot Goodell sat on his butt counting his money.

Stepped up and done what, though? By the time multiple players were doing it, it was already a hot button.

This whole protest policy couldn’t work out better for Goddell and the owners. The NFLPA is going to be too focused on this issue and they will lose their leverage on guaranteed contracts. All the owners have to do is agree that enforcement of any player demonstration, whether kneeling or apparel-related (like wearing different colored shoes) should be left up to the franchise, or maybe better yet, the Home Franchise. That would prevent players waiting to spring a surprise outside of their home field.

The Josh Gordon mystery continues. I hope he can get his issues worked out and see him on the field again but the one step forward and one back on the come back continue on.

@AdamSchefter Browns announce WR Josh Gordon not at camp. Gordon: “I have every intention of being ready and available to join my teammates soon to help bring winning football to our fans.”

@TomPelissero NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Josh Gordon, whom #Browns have placed on non-football illness list: "No timetable. We'll address the matter at the appropriate time."

@TomPelissero For anyone suspicious of Josh Gordon's announcement that he won't be at the start of #Browns camp, he's "absolutely not suspended," source said. Continuing to work on his issues, as Gordon said in his tweets.

It would have been real easy to put together some team representatives and at least open up a dialogue to at least make an attempt at understanding their position. Goodell made no attempt at that. Owners could have done that with their respective teams. Instead they did nothing.

Doing nothing would have been better than unilaterally issuing a new anthem policy a couple months ago. They really painted themselves into a corner with that "compromise".

Josh Gordon is really lucky Cleveland has stuck by him for this long.

Especially with all the front office and coaching turnover. It's surprising that by now one of the new regimes didn't cut their losses and release him or get what they could in a trade. Speaks to his talent, I guess. He was pretty amazing in 2013. I don't recall who was playing QB for the Browns that year but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it wasn't anybody good...McCown, maybe. Those numbers are that much more impressive when you consider who was throwing to him.

Chargers killed by injuries every single year it seems. Now already lost Henry & Verrett:

It is crazy how many major injuries have had before the season starts the past 5 years. They already lost Henry in the off-season. Bizzare.

Vikings are really locking up their core. Barr is basically the only one left.
