I ARd a couple of adult coed games in Ames yesterday. We had a couple handballs like that. Teams were ticked when I waived the flag. Those are easy calls to make when your arms are in an unnatural position.

It’s just a crappy way to give up a penalty for something so irrelevant. I get that the defenders need to be more disciplined in keeping their arms down, but with how hard it is to get a goal at this level that just seems really weak. If this were on an actual shot on goal, then fine. But the ball was just loose and there was no play on the goal. I just don’t like the rule.

I get it but it is like basketball, if it is a foul 2 minutes in, it's a foul at the end. If the same thing occurred near the center line, it's a handball. Have to call it no matter where it occurs. Players, over the years, almost perfected getting away with that garbage but with VAR that is really playing with fire.
