This is the part I don't understand. NET, Kenpom, and other advanced metrics all already take into account the entire season's performance and SOS, including non-conference strength of schedule. To start from a metric that already accounts for non-conference SOS and then adjust again based on the same factor, ends up putting more weight on that factor than any other. And if you're trying to put together a competitive tournament, why would you want more weight on how teams were performing three months ago than how they've done lately? Seems backward.
Our 3 Bigs were phenomenal in KC & playing at peak form at the right time of year. AND it’s their last shot, the next game could be their last and they know that. Our 3 guards were phenomenal in KC & playing at peak form at the right time of year. Mom has found his stroke. Otz is in his 3rd Tourny and will be prepared. Seeds & who you play means nothing, all Tourny teams have earned their way in. Playing in Omaha means more than seeding. I’d rather play UConn than Houston again. I was hoping for UNC or Purdue but it doesn’t matter…..just win the next game.
Agree. Yes, we are MUCH better than Drake is... but when you play an instate team that's literally just down the road from you... it does give the lesser team a LOT more motivation. That's what sucks about this.
I think A&M beats Nebraska. Nebraska can’t defend and A&M will hammer the piss out of them on the glass.

The thing that amazes me is how the selection committee places significant weight upon the early, nonconference games because that is supposedly a measure of strength, but then they watch the conference tournaments and say 'meh, that doesn't really matter'

Of course next year if we had a complete switch of resume with UNC it will be "Well, we can't just focus on non-conference and conference schedule, we have to look at the whole season. They had a very difficult conference schedule and have more quality wins so we are not as concerned about the weak non-conference schedule". Just making up an excuse for the outcome they want. That's all it is. Fine. Let's knock off everyone's darling to win the whole thing, UCONN, and give em all a big **** burger to eat.
Bigs were great outside of interior rebounding. Of all the 1 seeded draws Uconn was the worst as they aren't a good matchup for us (well not anyone really but especially us). King, BRE, Ward, and Milan are ineffective/inconsistent with the defensive glass. This gives the opp 2nd chances and often "free" points.
The collective doesn't have the ability between athleticism, hands, and acumen to be elite. We don't need that but we can't have 5-10 "HTF did we not get that" offensive rebounds ceded per game. Even though his stats looked good Tre had 2-3 boards that he completely botched. One, the one where all he needed to do was grab the ball, ended up being a 3. This is an area we need to be "passable" on and one that was pretty atrocious from the 1 month stretch leading into the Big 12 tourney.
No sure why people are so whiny. The first weekend we play SDSU, Drake or Washington State. That doesn't sound like an unfair draw to me. Get to the Sweet 16 and there are no easy roads to the Final 4 unless UConn and Auburn get rocked.
If anything, it actually did. Based off of the first reveal a few weeks back, it's pretty obvious that they value Non-con SOS, which is totally fair. To me, I think winning this weekend moved us from a 3 to a 2, regardless of what the bracketologists were saying.
Using Bart Torvik (records since 2008) to look at the teams from their efficiency profiles to see if you can see any trends for the types of teams we could see:
Illinois: Average .8 wins in the tournament. Lower than I thought.
Uconn: Averages 3 wins. Expects to be playing for an Elite 8 on average
ISU: 2.8 wins, only slightly less likely than UConn to play for the Elite 8.
BYU: 1.2 wins
Drake: .3 wins
SDSU: Teams with their profile have never gotten into the tournament before, much less won a game.
Washington State: .4 wins
Duquesne: .1 wins
Morehead State: No one with their efficiency profile has ever won a game.

Maybe they shouldn’t release the bracket until later tonight. Then they would have time to take the weekend into account.
I blame the big 10 and SEC for holding the season results hostage until the last minute.
Not really, BYU shouldn't have pulled Khalifa out when they were at Hilton, had he stayed in the game, I think we would have lost
