***Official portal tracker thread***

He posted these yesterday on Twitter...he's such a tool. He's trying way too hard to make TT seem relevant. Nobody would go to that sh*tty-a** ghost town if he wasn't shelling out crap-tons of money. Such a d-bag. He's all that's wrong with this new world of college athletics.

As far as I've understood it, the promotional and financial actions of Cody are precisely his self-aware schtick.

He's holding up a mirror to the college football industrial complex to blatantly demonstrate that conferences named SEC and Big 10 are not inherently better than others, they're simply being given more money by ESPN and FOX to control their own self-sustaining narrative.

He's a billionaire, so he can have fun with that game and not even blink an eye. Odds are he will only become more of a tool the longer he has billions to his name. Alas, the absurdity that is frivolously spending gobs of his own money in the middle of west Texas is kinda his point, right?

Anyone worried that JR will bounce if he has success early
Not one bit.

We should assume he will if he has the success we want.

Stop and think about it for a minute though. ISU after Bruce was where coaches go to die (Chizik seeing the oppty to buy a title with Newton doesn't count). Coach Mac was important and great but was never a threat to get poached. Even after his success, CPR couldn't build on it.

If JFR repeats what campbell has done, we will be established as a place that young coaches go to shine.

Fine with me.

I managed IT Teams for 30 years and had turnover all the time. I flaunted the fact that we could take young IT staff and help them build their career to go work at a Wells Fargo, Accenture, CHI, whatever. Never had a problem bring in new talent.

Let's just imagine/hope/suppose for a minute that JFR or some new coach at ISU did what Cignetti has done at Indiana - and then got poached - would you sign up for that? Hell, lets say JFR plays in the Big XII title game in the next 3 years, then got poached - would sign up for that?

If this fan base treats Rogers with the same kid gloves it treated Campbell, Rogers would be out of his mind to leave if he finds success here. He can have a salary for life doing what he loves and we’ll build him a statue, even if he keeps making the same mistakes for 10+ years.

But….. A LARGE Billboard on I 380….going both ways , that’s a HELL YA !!
Several years ago the Oregon Ducks put up a 80-100 foot ad on the side of a building in Oakland, CA (Oakland borders Berkeley, where Cal is located).

To add insult to injury I believe it was a “Run LMJ” LaMichael James Heisman ad. This was a couple blocks from the Golden State practice facility, and back when “Run TMC” was synonymous with the golden era of Warriors basketball.

Spending money to troll is a worthy endeavor.

He's no worse then ESPN or the SEC or the Big 10.

Is there any evidence to suggest that MC is not a very competitive person and that he would purposely sabotage his own team out of loyalty? I think thats pretty absurd.

Do we have any factual data on Amare Campbell? What was he offered? How does that compare to Bacon/Ebel/etc? For all we know, he was asking to be the highest paid LB in the portal, maybe wanting 10x what Bacon/Ebel/etc got.
He may be worth 10 times what bacon and Ebel were getting. I will say that he’s definitely worth more.

Great post. To me that was the fairly unique situation that MC had created for himself.

And it didn't matter. Anyone can leave any time. But for us to have to worry about it he's going to have to do good things.

its moving slow today. I was hoping we could be getting some more huge commits. two running backs(one from the SEC and wherever) and some more wide receiver plus that duluth Tight End. :)

No reason to worry about that today. IF it happens someday, it means he had success, so it’s a good thing. And until something changes to level the playing field, anticipate losing great coaches and your best players every year. We’re a development and feeder program. That doesn’t mean we can’t have success. We’re the Brewers.
News flash: We haven't been losing our best players every year since the start of the portal.

In fact we've done a great job at player retention. The "feeder program" hot-take needs to be shot into the sun because it's complete nonsense.

Do you watch the men's and women's hoops teams? You think those elite players play for free? Have you seen the talent JR's bringing in thus far? But I suppose every single one is giving us the infamous "home town discount." Which is another hot-take that needs to die.
