The point is that Campbell could have brought in transfers from other places that would have been better than most of the guys he took imo. Yeah I get Rocco, Brahmer, and maybe a few others. The rest weren't even that good of players.

It's a mix but yes there are many multi year guys.

Rodgers coming here from Washington State is way closer to a lateral move than Campbell going to PSU from here. Campbell can't call guys as the head coach of Penn State and bring in transfers who are better that ISU backups? I realize relationships mean a lot but damn.

Looking at the roster of returning players prior to the portal opening up, how many have committed to returning without entering the portal at this point? I am curious how many roster spots that CJR has to fill. Here's a thought, when high school players are recruited what per centage stay for their whole career and successfully become contributors on the field? 50% or so? I personally think that players that have some playing time at the next level can be evaluated far better and actually with the amount of availability in the portal, this may work out better than Cyclone fans expect.

All indications are that Campbell couldn't. He's never been good at the portal because he can't spend a full recruiting cycle to indoctrinate them and he doesn't want guys that aren't "his".
