This is a mess. How many programs can compete financially at the highest level. 20? Alabama can’t. Their war chest isn’t anywhere close to the Oregons, Ohio States, Texas, Michigans, and even Texas Techs of the world. Let’s see how they like being second fiddle.

Just wait until the big money at SMU starts to make up for lost time.

SEC has been paying players all along and yelled at the top of the mountain about their supposed superiority. Their pitiful bowl record shows that it wasn't any inherent ability that made them great it was just money. Now that "cheating" is above the table anyone can be great.

Once again, with the Alabama cannot compete in N.I.L.? SMH. Say it enough times, I suppose it will become true! FTR, they are the 3rd highest revenue earning Athletic Department in FBS. They literally have 80 players (currently) in the NFL with unlimited funds, plus they do have other wealthy donors who 100% care about football. Right now, they are struggling due to a poor coaching hire, not because of NIL. If Alabama needs to write an NIL check, they can.

Money matters...a lot. But I think too many here may underestimate the other factors players consider. For one, nobody wants to get paid and roll into a situation where they may or may not be a starter...two, no one wants to become part of an offense/defense scheme unless its a good fit, and finally, how a player fits with a staff is a big deal as well.

This is about money...but its a far cry from being just about money. Give things a little time because I think our Coaches know EXACTLY what the are doing. Not their first rodeo.

Meh. This is a weak take. There was graft everywhere including in the holier than though B1G. The SEC is struggling now though. That is for sure.

I said that when they hired DeBoer from Washington. As we have just witnessed- college football, for the players, is about the head coach, not so much the University.

I agree on the poor coaching hire. Alabama has money for sure. But I’m talking compared to the potential of the top 5-6. Alabama fans aren’t gonna be happy unless they are at least consistent semi finalists with titles sprinkled in. I should have worded it better.

When you chant your conference name after games instead of your own team’s name you are in a cult.
That is a totally annoying chant. Never done it myself. However, it really is a defensive mechanism due to the olden days when the SEC was under-appreciated (yes, that happened!).

When I was a kid, and the Bear was roaming the sidelines, Alabama was the only SEC team to win a National Championship (6 AP and / Or UPI) between LSU's 1958 AP / UPI and Georgia's 1980 (AP / UPI). So, Alabama fans rooted for the conference teams on their schedule to win (even the rivals) just to help with SOS along with playing a really tough OOC schedule through the 1970s. However, Alabama fans NEVER chanted "SEC! SEC!" back then. "Roll Tide" would do!

The 1980s had hardly any SEC teams in the National Title picture with the exception of the 1980-2 Herschel Walker years @ Georgia. Very good but not great teams during that decade.

After Georgia won in 1980 (HW's frosh season), there wasn't another SEC team to win the National Title until Alabama in 1992, and they had to fight up hill in the polls that year just to get in the game against Miami.

Even in the 90s with Florida (1996) and Tennessee (1998) winning it too, they still took a back seat behind other programs, conferences, etc. in National Perception. Florida with Spurrier had a good perception but not the rest of the conference.

Auburn going Undefeated (13-0) and Uncrowned in 2004 was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. Pissed everybody off. However, once Florida won it in 2006, the dragon started breathing serious fire for 15 or so years.

It's the B1G's turn now. Eventually, everybody will realize what a B1G annoying two-faced devil the B1G is! Hope so, anyway.

Just a little historical perspective.

That being said, it (SEC!, SEC!) is an annoying, obnoxious and cultish chant.

Roll Tide!

:)

When was the last time a student athlete was declared academically ineligible?

Can we confirm players are still required to go to class? TJ Finley is in the portal and his next school will be his 7th. I would love to see the transcripts on a lot of these kids that have gone to 3+ schools.

I know Iowa State touts team academic accomplishments, but would be interesting to see grad rates at schools.

The most recent confirmation is the GPA score for the men's basketball team- as announced by TJ to open up his Houston Baptist post-game presser. The quality of TJ is unmatched at the college coaching ranks. The guy was beaming about his player's a academic success. If Iowa State losses TJ then heads will need to roll.
