***Official portal tracker thread***

Been saying and caught flack for it at first but glad others are noticing - the LBs we will have coming in (along with Goodwin and hopefully Hawthorne) will be better than what we had before. Our previous scheme allowed for dog **** LBs. For those who disagree, note how we didn’t have much of a drop off in play 2 years ago when we were on our 9th string LB because they were all getting hurt.

Only positions I think we will be worse in as of now are QB, TE, OL, and CBs.

- TEs I can handle because I think we’re going to focus on TEs that block better than what we just had.

- QB probably sees a drop off from peek Rocco but improvement from post-Cincy Rocco.

- CBs I’m not worried about because we have one of the best DB coaches in the world coming in to work with them. It’s just hard to replace Cooper and Williams, as we saw this year.

I think we’ll be significantly better at WR, DL, LB, S.

Unsure on RB. Losing Hansen sucks but certainly doesn’t feel irreplaceable.

Someone said that if players enter the portal they can come back if they don't get any bites. **** that. Don't let them back. Let them transfer to Upper Iowa or Graceland.
Last year, of the WSU had 10 kids gone back that entered the portal, fwiw.

They can’t just come back like nothing happened. Staff would still need to welcome them back.

I have no issue if a guy like Zay Robinson, who had a lot of suiters in HS, just goes to see what else there is out there and then decides he likes this staff.

Without being disparaging towards any players, I would guess some of these 3rd and 4th string guys who have no business being on a P4 field won’t be welcomed back

Then Jimmy needs another 15m or so in NIL. That’s the dirty little secret that few talk about. Yes, he brought a bunch of players with him, and he is strong in schematics. But they’ve spent heavily on Mendoza and others. Lot of financial support from that school. Hard to win at the level he is without the smack.
It is nuts that Cal held on to Sagapolutele, especially after firing Wilcox.

The kid could have been a top 5 paid QB.

The old cut off your nose to spite your face strategy.

The ONLY reason Indiana is succeeding is money. Mark Cuban bankrolled that team just like the TT billionaire funded their football team

Iowa State made the prudent and fiscally responsible decision in hiring Jimmy. I have been attending ISU football games since 1968. We as a school, have to play Moneyball and think medium to long term in our strategic planning. #1: Our school and athletic department are not heavily in debt like most of the other Power 4 schools. #2: The large SEC and Big 10 ESPN television contracts expire around 2031. ESPN is financially collapsing-and its parent, Disney, is not in great financial shape. We need to ride the storm out. Iowa State has never been financially reckless. I believe we made a very solid and pragmatic decision in hiring Jimmy, in the eye of a storm. President James Hilton - starting around 1955- was the visionary and mastermind of the modern Iowa State. He was strategic and fair and played the long game on almost every darn issue and usually prevailed against foes like Iowa and the NCAA and the Iowa BOR. Hang Tough Cyclone Brothers!!!! GO Clones!!

I bought this several months ago but haven't gotten to it yet. Quick glance and it sounds like Hancher (U of Iowa president) fit their university and fanbase perfectly . . . an arrogant prick who played dirty.

Rogers would be smart to go case by case.

If someone goes in the portal and he finds someone nearly as good, equal, or better then yes - you’re not welcome back.

Not out of spite but because he can’t wait around to see if these guys find a hotter date to the prom. He just doesn’t have time to **** around.

If someone tests the waters and decides they want to come back and we’re still in a position of need you take them back and focus your attention elsewhere

It's possible he's left the door open for returns. If the player is someone they'd like to retain but had reservations about how ISU sees them contributing or their rev share offer, in particular. But I'm sure they are being warned their positions are not guaranteed once the portal opens.

It would have to be a guy who was a home run for me to take them back.

Is MC actively trying to F us? I don’t know.

Would I risk a potential MC loyalist in the locker room for a ehhh guy we could replace? Not worth the risk imho.

We’re off that ship…it sank into the pedo sea.

We don’t need any distractions going forward.

Ol is going to take a while to rebuild, but that was the story for majority of fcmc anyway

Oh **** I didn’t even think of the possibility that Campbell is going to plant a mole inside the org to sabotage us from the inside! What if it’s Konrardy?!
