***Official portal tracker thread***

Man I would just love if that happened. I try not to be petty, but that would just be great.
Man, that schedule, i just dont see any way they go less than 9-3 without some major issues. They get 5 home games in conference. I could see them losing at Michigan and Washington, but I just dont see many other chances unless USC beats them or they get upset by NW again.

Fair enough. Think of ALL the injuries to our defensive backfield - which is what led to the Cinci loss (we let up SOOOO many big plays because we were decimated at that position and starting players who were VERY green!). Our offense was good enough to win the game had we had our "1st game of the season" defensive roster intact. Also, Rocco got injured BADLY in that game & it affected his effectiveness the rest of the year! Next year, had Campbell not left & we kept almost our entire roster (which I believe was very likely), that D-backfield & linebacking corps would have been extremely experienced and talented. With a healthy Rocco and another off-season of growth for the QB backups & receiving corps - our path to the B12 c'ship was looking pretty good.
I agree, we would have had some holes to fill, but there was a lot of experience on the roster. It's a huuuuuge "what if".

You do understand 95% of recruits in this class have already signed somewhere, right. You are only going to get someone at this point that either for some reason hadnt signed or was released, because of coaching change etc. So you have a very limited pool, of people, you have had no time to recruit.

So its either take what is available in the limited pool or go to the portal when it opens. We will see a lot of both options.

There are very very few high 3s and above that are available to even go recruit left at this point, because they all signed 2 days before Campbell bailed.
Exactly. So your options are to flip the same pool of players from WSU (doing it) and pick from the portal (will do it). Plenty of talent in the portal from kids who got stuck behind someone somewhere. We’re not signing high end guys, but the portal can efficiently fill a roster. I trust Jimmy.

Let me clarify…a public university not disclosing how funds are spent.

Fine, I'll play along for the purposes of this exercise (even though these aren't "public funds").

All you have to do is add one level of private intermediary.

Example:
1. AD cuts a check for $20.5M to Learfield
2. Learfield handles all the individual player agreements and payments

No individual amounts have to be disclosed because Learfield's a private company. Done and done.

Any of those 3 OL would you consider Big 12 level starting ability?

Man I know I've said this before but so disappointed in how many of the players from Iowa are leaving. Its really surprising to me.

Guess it really shows how little they actually cared for Iowa State, just a place for them to play. At least much less than us fans.

Yes yes there's a lot thats going into this but for some of these players leaving with one year of eligibility left, man... Depressing.
And it’s the new reality. For players in the NIL and portal era, signing somewhere or leaving somewhere is purely transactional. Oh, they may love their coach, but the overriding factor is either to go somewhere in order to cash in or go somewhere they can play and cash in the following year. The new kids will have no more loyalty to ISU or you and me than the kids leaving do.

At this point... nothing would make me happier than JP discovering evidence of Campbell tampering with our players and telling them to leave.... and suing him and PSU for everything he can get.

Well... I guess winning the lottery would make me happier!

Seriously though.... I would not be shocked at all to someday find out that Campbell was throwing JP under the bus this whole time to the players before he left and telling them that if he left they should also look elsewhere. I don't understand where all these kids think they are going to end up that is so much better than here?? Most do not move on from here to a better program honestly.
I don’t know about what Campbell said, but I can almost quote what he kid’s agents are telling them…..

Of the 70 who entered the portal last year for Wazzu, 10 guys came back to play for Rogers, including their #1 QB, #1 WR, and #1 TE.

Not saying I expect our stars to come back, but I absolutely believe some guys will return
Interesting. In the “old days,” you’d likely tell kids to take a big Screw You, No Way You come back. But today, this is all transactional. If a kid leaves and wants to come back, and he fits your scheme/culture/budget, you’d most likely take him.

Well, with JP ready to call CMC's bluff by having a replacement coach already hired, it makes sense. It was almost as if a script went out.

I don't think CMC was ready for a well, bye response from JP and the ISU administration.View attachment 164606
Yep. As someone who managed organizations and people for years, I can tell you that it gets really old having an employee come in over and over to tell you they’re threatening to leave. You eventually just offer to help them pack
