Why is everyone poo-pooing these guys leaving? These slow guys, that are poor in coverage, and what not, just helped ISU win more games than anytime in the team's history.

Different system on defense. With the 3-3-5 we had bigger DE's and also bigger LB's. So what made for a solid player in the Campbell/Heacock defense might not be a good fit for the Rogers/Bobbit defense.

Also, since money matters and ISU is limited, Rogers might be more interested in investing in the future and paying money to younger players vs. paying market rate for a player who is done after the 2026 season.

Heard this from a reliable source immediately after the announcement. They've been 8-for-8 so far on the list of people they said were leaving. This is second hand, but proving reliable. Take it for what you will.
Wow, Penn St fans will really be scratching their heads if he sees the field.

Yep... all of this was completely JP's fault was definitely the narrative pushed by pretty much everyone that mattered at all. It was sad to see. I can't imagine what all the football players were likely being told when this all went down.

Let's just say... I don't think it's "normal" to lose this many players in a coaching change... that's all.

I think it's been pretty normal actually.

And we got gashed if he guessed wrong. Good linebackers don’t guess. They know what’s coming and put themselves in position to stop the play. They get beat if the offense executes their jobs sometimes.
Generally, that is true. But in our 3-3 front, it seemed like our LB's were relied on to be VERY aggressive against the run. Same goes for safeties like Freyler and Neal. For ISU's defense to stop the run, those guys needed to play downhill.

Well, with JP ready to call CMC's bluff by having a replacement coach already hired, it makes sense. It was almost as if a script went out.

I don't think CMC was ready for a well, bye response from JP and the ISU administration.14f6886fb71b5a6e24a40b74b0f41f73.jpg

At this point... nothing would make me happier than JP discovering evidence of Campbell tampering with our players and telling them to leave.... and suing him and PSU for everything he can get.

Well... I guess winning the lottery would make me happier!

Seriously though.... I would not be shocked at all to someday find out that Campbell was throwing JP under the bus this whole time to the players before he left and telling them that if he left they should also look elsewhere. I don't understand where all these kids think they are going to end up that is so much better than here?? Most do not move on from here to a better program honestly.

I think people are naive if they don't think coaching staffs (Even Jimmy Rogers & his guys) are having conversations with the right people (aka agents, parents) to make their interest known and how much money their school is willing to pay.

This isn't about being better than Iowa State. It's about players agents, players parents and players feeling they can get a bigger paycheck elsewhere. AND in some cases, I am sure the Jimmy Rogers staff is telling a player to look elsewhere because of money, fit, talent, age, etc.

I haven’t read through all these threads but is there a chance ISU is not planning to share the full $20.5 million with student athletes, particularly the football program? These things are supposed to be public information (ie how much each player gets) but I haven’t seen anything on it. My understanding is schools CAN share this revenue with athletes but are not required to.

The football program is paying around $4 million less for coaches next year and I could see the football program saving another $4-5 million not paying the full allotment to the team. With a new coach, you can gradually add to the allotment over the next 4-5 years until you are funding the football team completely with revenue sharing.

Do I love this idea?! Hell no…but ISU is not a blue blood and you have to be creative to compete.

Wazzu had about $2.5 million to spend, so if ISU dipped to $7 million, we could still build a roster albeit with under the radar guys.

Yes ISU is doing the $20.5 million with $13 mil allocated to FB

Agree. And while I cannot question the results, I think the 3-3-5 was a big contributor to our rash of injuries. No one talks much about that.
