***Official portal tracker thread***

I am no insider by any means- but heard something very similar. Purdy reminded Matt that the two of them had not completed what they wanted to accomplish at Iowa State. Something like that.
Weird.

I was posting here about the Penn State job being absolutely ideal for Campbell since it opened up.

That was largely predicated on his public statements about how much a place like Ames was the right environment for his family.

Commuting in from Palos Verdes to University Park is pretty different from Gilbert to Ames.

Ebel is an interesting case. Mentioned specifically by Rogers as a guy he recruited out of high school at SDSU. Goes in the portal but probably isn’t going up level. Hmmm….

This one is big to me. As a freshman he had 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

His style of play and frame remind me of Enyi Uwazurike. I think Jace Gilbert can become an excellent player for the defense in the years to come and like this one a lot. He's a lot more naturally talented than Ike Ezeuogo, that guy I won't even blink at hitting the portal. His pass rush ability was absolutely brutal.

You do understand 95% of recruits in this class have already signed somewhere, right. You are only going to get someone at this point that either for some reason hadnt signed or was released, because of coaching change etc. So you have a very limited pool, of people, you have had no time to recruit.

So its either take what is available in the limited pool or go to the portal when it opens. We will see a lot of both options.

There are very very few high 3s and above that are available to even go recruit left at this point, because they all signed 2 days before Campbell bailed.
I'm not disagreeing with you on this. There just isn't much left to recruit unless we poach players from other teams going through what we are.

I think you keep this class of HS players small and rely on transfers going forward this year. At this point, most of these HS commits aren't going to mean much the next few years anyways.

Man I know I've said this before but so disappointed in how many of the players from Iowa are leaving. Its really surprising to me.

Guess it really shows how little they actually cared for Iowa State, just a place for them to play. At least much less than us fans.

Yes yes there's a lot thats going into this but for some of these players leaving with one year of eligibility left, man... Depressing.
It may not be their decision to leave.

Why is everyone poo-pooing these guys leaving? These slow guys, that are poor in coverage, and what not, just helped ISU win more games than anytime in the team's history.

Sorry you don't like my honest opinion on a LB. He was good against the run the last half of the season, but he's still slow. And that was exploited numerous times.

Agree. Yes, he made some big plays.... but that's because he gambled WAY too much and over pursued a ton. And because of that was caught out of position a bunch... but also when he guessed right he would make a play.

And we got gashed if he guessed wrong. Good linebackers don’t guess. They know what’s coming and put themselves in position to stop the play. They get beat if the offense executes their jobs sometimes.

I wonder how this is shaking out vs expectations of people close to the program.

Better? Worse?

Maybe JP read this right and brought in his guy immediately?

Maybe he believed the program was a personality cult and it was the Iowa State Campbells and not Cyclones?

Or maybe he knew Campbell was holding guys who would earn more elsewhere and it was always going to be $$ only?

Would be interesting to hear.

Either way it makes college football far less interesting to watch for me, but in a Kardashian world it plays
