***Official portal tracker thread***

The coaches know what they’re doing.
This isn’t their first rodeo. Unlike fans they probably knew who would be out there months ago as I’m sure agents are constantly reaching out.

It sucks as we lose guys we know and have trust in…but it’s not like we had the market cornered on top players under MC.

If you asked 49er fans 4 years ago how they’d feel about losing Trey Lance and having a guy named Brock Purdy as QB1 they’d have lost their ****!

‘We won’t win 5 games with…what’s his ******* name???? Brad Paisley?’

A ton of how good a FB team is lies in grit and determination…work ethic and attitude.

You think this man recruits quitters? Lol
He didn’t come here to lose. He knew what to expect. I believe in Jimmy.

Fact is, we need to get used to this. Gonna happen every year unless the rules change. Not to this extent unless Coach leaves, but good players will get bought. Roster will be different every year. Those are the results of today’s rules.

These guys fall into 1/2 categories

A. Want to play for MC at pedo state and probably getting big money to do it.

B. Kids that no longer fit our system under the new staff. *I’ll add we probably are cutting some guys that didn’t develop as well.

I don’t like either one of them happening.

But this isn’t just an ISU issue. This is happening everywhere, especially where there was a coaching change.

We’ll be just fine.
This is a hard job. I think people are really taking everything Campbell did here for granted. I don't see a reason to be so optimistic as of right now. Ask me again in September when the team is on the field.

Yeah this sucks because its right at our door with ISU now, but seriously, at this point, the j*****s from the SEC and Big 10 should just take their ball and go play with themselves. Let the rich ******** go slobber all over themselves. 34 teams can just go beat each other off. 35 if they let Notre Dame join in their **** fest. All schools outside of those conferences should lawyer up, and sign agreements to no longer compete with the rich kids.

Self relegation is one choice, I guess...

Yeah I think as fans we have long over-estimated just how much the players really care about the University. Some do but most are at a school just because of the Coach and now these days also because of the $$$.
Now that players have four years to earn from their efforts on the field all that other stuff has to take a back seat.

Kids have always committed to coaches, not universities. The difference now is that we don't lock players into situations they don't want to be in and treat them differently from every other student on campus.

Guardrails are definitely needed because the pendulum has swung too far the other way but this is going to be the new normal. The courts have been really, really consistent and we just need to either accept it or move on. Complaining about it gets you beat on the field and off.

I'm optimistic because of the assistants being added to the staff. Coaches with solid experience from a years and regions of country.

Realize it hurts to lose players we have watched develop. But seems like Iowa State has been a "develop player" program under Campbell and will continue under Rogers.

Players like Bacon, Becht, Purdy, Hanson, etc weren't 4 or 5 star players. But guys who love FB and worked to become solid players. Think back on Kyle Kempt's story!

It's painful now, but Iowa State's success next fall is in Rogers & staffs ability to add players from the portal. Players who fit his system.

No player we have lost or will lose over the next week is irreplaceable.

Dan McCarney took over a hard job. No resources or facilities and a program that hadn't been to a bowl since Jesus was still working construction.

PR had it a little better and investments were made to bring us up to speed. We had an admin that wanted to win.

Honestly…f Gene Chizik.

But Campbell took over a program way better than Danny Mac did. Tons more facilities and investments…better tv coverage.

Yes he did a lot…but a lot is discounted about the efforts of Mac, CPR, and the investment of the University for really the first time in forever.

Campbell did give us a winners attitude though…for the first time in my 54 years I wasn’t sure any game we needed to win wasn’t going to end up in disappointment.

And as others pointed out…we didn’t play UT, OU, a still strong NE, or A&M.

I think DM & PR would have been tremendously more successful if they came in the situation MC did,
