I also think there's a big variance in the type of knucklehead that commits to Deion and the type of recruit that commits to Campbell / ISU.Colorado has transfer portal issues. Most are leaving in pursuit of more money. We got spoiled in the Matt Campbell era as ISU often retained players for less money due to culture and coaching staff. Let's hope Jimmy Rogers can continue on that track.
Insider reveals biggest reason behind Colorado's transfer portal mass exodus
He was shown the door.So I remember people being upset Bolton left, but I thought it was a Bolton not liking what he was told was expected of him?
Is that not true?
Obviously Bolton had the talent to be a starter on TJ’s first team. No chance he was run off for lack of basketball ability.
**** that.
I’m not naive to the reality of college football today, but this is just classless behavior.
I hope kids are sharing these stories far and wide and the programs doing a lot of this ******* crater and the staff end up out on their asses.
If that’s ISU, so be it.
It’s a fair question. Setting my personal feelings aside on this one I honestly see both sides. Is it better for the kid to have that or tell him he has a lot to work on, honor his commitment and then when he’s there tell him he probably will never see the field?
Honestly I would prefer that if it was my kid.

What do you mean? You think all those kids left or didn’t show up for a season just decided to walk away?
Ya it's not ideal for an incoming coach. But there's also 85 open spots to fill. To turn a kids away through no fault of their own and without a chance to prove their worth is wrong. It’s a fair question. Setting my personal feelings aside on this one I honestly see both sides.
Objectively, the fact this kid said “thanks, but no thanks” to several other Power 4 programs, graduated early, and now is back to square one is a really ****** position to be in.
You’re also assuming that (a) Rogers has better players coming in (which is, at best, premature at this point) and (b) he’s not going to earn his way into the field.
On the other hand, yes - it’s going to be an equally ****** position to come in for a coach that has his mind made up before you even have the opportunity to meet in person or workout in front of him.
That said, it’s not as though he’s trapped here if he comes in. Come put the time and work in for a year, see what happens, and be able to transfer out if that’s the route you choose.
Is it better to keep them around even though the coach clearly knows they aren’t interested?Ya it's not ideal for an incoming coach. But there's also 85 open spots to fill. To turn a kids away through no fault of their own and without a chance to prove their worth is wrong.
Again, trying to remain objective here, I’m kind of in “wait and see” mode.Ya it's not ideal for an incoming coach. But there's also 85 open spots to fill. To turn a kids away through no fault of their own and without a chance to prove their worth is wrong.
There is still another signing period and he still has ability to talk to teams. If he was sat on a bench and basically told to shag punts, it would be tougher to latch on to a good team. If the kid can make close to 6 figures a year or so, he won’t have trouble landing at another solid school. What do you mean?
Again, I was under the impression kids were being advised about there prospects.
Telling a kid he isn’t going to see playing time for x/y/z reasons on the roster (and wouldn’t get their NIL renewed) ahead of the portal opening is a far cry from forcing a committed kid out after the early signing period.
They just did it with the kid from Austin, Texas. It happens.I have been told TJ shows kids the door pretty frankly.
From what I have heard from SDSU sources, this is Rodgers in a nutshell. If he wins it will be fine, but he is going to struggle with the media and fans compared to Campbell. What really rubbed him and his family the wrong way was how blunt it was. No details, no "here are some things you should work on as a young player", no apology, nothing. Basically "we want to go a different direction and we'll email you the papers to sign".
I agree, not a great look.
Ya? You obviously have to give them an opportunity. Is it better to keep them around even though the coach clearly knows they aren’t interested?
But what does that mean?I have been told TJ shows kids the door pretty frankly.
Have to?Ya? You obviously have to give them an opportunity.
I’ve heard the same from people really plugged into the FCS scene - particularly in the Dakotas. I take with a grain of salt, of course. From what I have heard from SDSU sources, this is Rodgers in a nutshell.
