***Official portal tracker thread***

I know. I think a lot of these guys think they will be picked up by a bigger program and most won't which is funny to watch.
The portal has been going on for long enough that everyone should know that already though. Although this is the first year most schools will have rev share money to spend, maybe that increases the demand.

Don’t you think some of the guys are being encouraged to hit the portal by the new Coaches?
I know for a fact that at least one of the incoming recruits was. He didn't want to reopen his recruitment, but was "asked" to cancel his letter of intent and give up your scholarship and NIL deal you signed. Kid is out hundreds of thousands.

I use the term "asked" loosely because how are you going to respond as a 17 year old when the new GM you've never met calls you out of the blue to say this. You're not going to stick around to play for someone that doesn't want you.

The other reality is everyone can be an agent…so I’m sure a lot of these kids have parents/family trying to negotiate NIL deals for them. Of course all these boasters and coaches are talking a big talk…but what they deliver is a ????

UTSA’s coach addresses this in a reel I saw.

‘I hope these kids get what they’re getting told…because that doesn’t always happen’

Must have been a bigger recruit to be getting hundreds of thousands already

That sux. I think the new Coach would be better off honoring previous commitments just for optics. Plus, you just never know who you might be turning away. I feel for that kid.

I mean this is the reality of college football now. He can be mad at Matt Campbell for pulling the rug out.

If you have a signed contract though you can say **** you or say pay me and I'll go away.

I don't know I guess I'm different, then I'd stay and prove CJR wrong.
I did it.

My college baseball coach left. He was awesome and he loved me.

New coach brought in his players and we never really connected.

Probably a one off because the dude was ultra arrogant.

I showed him by having my best season , but he still hated the fact I was showing up “his” shiny new recruits.

But, it just sucked.

And it sucks for these kids. Especially the upperclassmen and even more so for the ones that aren’t “re-recruited”

Like I said, it’s just different now.

Why would he leave ISU? He’s an Iowa kid right? Walk on who grew into a starter.
Could be his size, speed, skill set aren't a great fit for what Jimmy Rogers wants to do on defense.

Could be Bacon has been at ISU 4 years and wants to go to grad school & play his 5th year at a new place. Life experience.

Colorado has transfer portal issues. Most are leaving in pursuit of more money. We got spoiled in the Matt Campbell era as ISU often retained players for less money due to culture and coaching staff. Let's hope Jimmy Rogers can continue on that track.

Insider reveals biggest reason behind Colorado's transfer portal mass exodus
Didn't they just cut the ever living **** out of their budget? I wouldn't be surprised if that meant pay cuts for players.

This is also what you will see nationwide for non-SEC/B10 schools who are deficit spending (see: Iowa State). Just depends how long it takes for everyone's rainy day funds to run out.

If a kid came to Iowa State and graduates and decides to go somewhere else for a year, that does not bother me one bit. That is what the portal was originally designed to do. One or two players at a time is fine. What I don't like is the wholescale ability for the nucleus of a team to leave and join the departing coach. I've said it (with IU and Cignetti) before it happened at ISU that that is unethical, and I will say it again. It's unethical. If players want to follow their coach, that is fine, but they should have to sit out a year to do that. Either way, Campbell is showing to not be who he portrayed himself to be. His timing, manner of leaving and poaching of players is literally setting Iowa State back. If not unethical, it's totally not cool. On to the new guy!

Let’s remember,

NONE If these players would transfer if Matt didn’t leave. At least non of the high profile players.
Not so sure that's true. Matt was going to have the same $13M cap that's facing Jimmy Rogers. Culture is great, but if a player can make $500k somewhere else, his admiration for his coach won't matter.

After spurning offers for the last half decade, could be Campbell saw the writing on the wall. Money before culture.

Im going to disagree. For whatever reason if true, the coach is making a decision based on what he saw of the kids tape or what he is bringing in. It is too bad for the kid, absolutely, but good for the coach to make a decision best for his team.

I think as fans we all get caught up in emotions. How could coach go to Pedo state? and take our players? How can an Iowa kid go play for them?

Coaches have always known that the relationship with the college and the fans is transactional. End of story. As fans we tend to forget that. Now kids get NIL. Guess what, the value of that relationship just increased beyond free tuition.

As ISU fans, especially with the way things are with NIL, these are business decisions first these days for the kids, a great campus, college of study, hot tri delts....are farther down the list for most i would guess.

Coaches have always known this and expected the kids to live at a higher standard. Now it will go both ways....it's simply transactional.

I wish players and coaches would just be honest. "I'm leaving because these guys are offering me way more money".
THANK YOU, FOR THIS POST!
Given a number of these out-of -state players that wouldn't know Iowa U from the "University of Iowa State," why not transfer for a bigger check?
95%+ of these 18-22 year olds will never see a fb payday post college, outside of UFL chump change.
Ps. CW sorta kinda expressed that PSU might be a landing spot for Rocco. Hope Rocco is taking a long hard look at PSU's returning qbs.
(I know nothing about them, other than a 4 * star).
Point being, will Rocco see playing time? He would in Ames.
I. Know. Nothing.
