***OFFICIAL MASTERS WEEK***

Looks like he just left a 9 foot birdie putt short as well.

Seems like he is hitting it good enough to be -4 thru 5. Unfortunately he can't get the ball to the hole on the greens. Which was a big problem for him yesterday too.

Tiger also hit it bad enough to shoot 85 yesterday.

My comment about him playing safe isn't just in this Masters (although I don't think he is intentionally leaving 11 ft putts short to make the cut). It's the way he has been playing for 6 years now. Irons, driver, putter....he use to attack everything. He use to attack pins, now he plays it safe. I know his driver was terrible for a while, but he would go to tournaments where he would hit 2 iron stingers all day off the tee instead of driver. Sure he hit it in the fairway, but his approach shot was 200 out while others were hitting a PW into the greens. You can't win tournaments doing that.

He needs to get back to the F it attitude. He might make some bogeys here or there, but he will have a lot easier birdies as well.

It's one thing I have grown to appreciate about Phil Mickelson (whom I use to dislike quite a bit). That guy goes for it, even now that he is older and his game isn't as good, he is still attacking the golf course.

I'm not sure he can do that anymore. His "going for it" had as much to do with his athleticism as it did his "f*** it attitude." He would rip a drive 340 and be in the deep rough because he knew he was strong and athletic enough to blast a sand wedge 145 yards from the rough and put it close.

His body couldn't stand up to that kind of thing anymore and now he has changed his swing so much, I don't think he has enough confidence to just go for everything.

I actually think the opposite is true now of him. He will never be what he was in the early 2000's. The sooner he stops trying to be and starts trying to play consistent golf the better. If he started getting consistent, there's no doubt he has enough talent to win another major.

Bubba's not liked because he's a hypocritical whiny little man. He wants attention but he wants to act like he's humble. He wants to swing a pink driver and drive the General Lee down Magnolia Lane but he doesn't think there should be a long drive competition in a practice round and he will hit a 3 iron even though he will hit driver there all week. He's just annoying and maybe Rickie in an exception, that whole little group is annoying and I really don't know how Phils expected to win with all of those guys sniffing his *** all week. They here Gary Player talk about Phil being there for them to hit the first tee shots and what happens? There they all are.

I know I'm in minority but that's what I've always kind of liked/respected about Tiger. He's not kissing anyone's *** to get ahead and he's out there to do one thing, and that's to win. Definitely some flaws there but in the events I have been to, there's not an appreciable personality difference between him and a lot of guys when the cameras aren't on. The difference is when they are on.

I get the impression that most of them are ***-holes on the PGA. They rarely seem to having fun unless they are up by five strokes on the last hole. None of them seem to like one another. Channel flipped by an LPGA event a couple weeks back just in time to see Lexi Thompson hit a hole-in-one. Her playing partners, Lydia Ko and Michelle Wie seemed as happy (hell, they showed more emotion than Lexi did!) for her as she did. They seemed to genuinely like each other. It wasn't just me, the dude announcing talked about the same thing and contrasted it with men's events he does.

You grow up at the country club you're probably going to wind up a *******.

Tiger also hit it bad enough to shoot 85 yesterday.

No he didn't. He hit 10 of 14 fairways. 11 of 18 GIR. That was 1 better and 1 worse than the average for the day. He hit two bad shots. Holes 9 and 12. Otherwise he hit it good enough to shoot a 70.

He was close to going to meltdown mode, he got the up down on 12 to save bogey which gave him some confidence to play well the last 6 holes. He was all over the map, but his short game saved him a lot of pars.

I thought it was a super impression 73.

I read an article in the SI and it was about Arnie Palmer, and of course he was asked about Tiger, and Arnie's comments something like, Tiger has never been the same since his Dad died. His Dad kept his head on straight, and gave him a regime and schedule to follow, and once he lost that, Tiger has been lost ever since. Arnie went on and say, could Tiger get 'it' (being to play like he used to play) back? He said yes, but Arnie did not think he ever will.
I've said that for years. All Tiger had to do was play golf and open the back gate so they could back the truckloads of money in. Once Earl died he had no idea how to manage his own life because he never had to. He was like a kid that left home for the very first time. Except for the fact that was about 32, married with children and a bazillionaire.

Spieth running away from the field will make for a boring Sunday. Sigh

And the first two no live TV for him and his group. You could stream it but otherwise no go. ESPN will come on in 15 minutes and the Golf Channels is covering this morning/early afternoon but can't do much more than talk about it, no real live video coverage of play.

Now ESPN will talk to everyone and show replays of what they missed.

I think the PGA tour is a LOT better now than it was when Tiger won everything. He was about the only person who was an athlete and now I'd argue all the young guys are emulating Tiger of 15 years ago.

The pitch he just threw up on 16 was a hell of a shot. His tee shot on the other hand was awful.

Yeah, and there's a reason Tiger has 14 majors and Phil doesn't. It's because Phil plays golf like a meathead. Tiger still takes chances and him taking chances or not has rarely had anything to do with his success level. Did you see his shots and 7 or 9 yesterday? Those weren't safe plays.

He should have made 5 on 12. He shouldn't have birdied 13 and he sure as hell shouldn't have parred 11. I would also say 9 should have been a 6. He didn't hit good anough shots to make any birdies save the par 5s and he hit some downright awful shots he bailed himself out of with his short game. Even is about as good as that ball striking round was and that one stroke is the 3-putt. Yes, he hit fairways but he did nothing with that because he could find the face of an iron. An average day with a pros short game is at least a 75 yesterday. Today, kind of the opposite but I think it should be encouraging that all phases are showing life and he can become more balanced in his practice.

I agree but at the same time it seems like we still just have runaways. Kaymer had one, Rory's had a couple, now Spieth. These guys can be so good that when one has it that week they just run away.

If this happens I will be rolling in cash! I am in Masters Pool and Spieth is one of my guys....Along with Day, Na, Dustin Johnson...It would be great if I could finish 1, 2, and 3...I would REALLY be rollin' in it! But I will take only one of my guys to win it.

It all depends what Hoffman does these last 3 holes. Or Spieth could pull a T.C. Chen.

Edit: Looking at the current leader board if you take out Spieth and Hoffman you would have a real good tournament going on. Have to see if those two can keep it going.

Edit 2: Whoa Dustin Johnson. -7 on the par 5s today

That was Tiger's second under-par score in his last 15 major rounds.
