I'm still watching from recording it tosay, Jordan unbelievable and Sergio is putting together a nice round. The big easy, just wow he just makes golf look easy.
I'm in the same boat. I have been told from a buddy of mine that is a golf rep, that he is very arrogant and not the most personable.
There are not a lot of Americans that are likeable people off the course.
Tiger and Phil don't have great reps, bubba and Patrick reed were voted the most hates players on tour.
I guess we'll see three days from now.
I've kind of pegged the guy as Matt Kuchar 2.0, make a boatload of money but never really win much, once in a while against weak fields.
He's been better to this point and he's 21. He's not going to get longer but he's so damn solid all around. I can't really think of a comparison for him off the top of my head. Everyone I think of is just longer than he is so I don't feel like I can compare them to him. Maybe a Furyk type of career but with more majors. If he doesn't have injury problems or mess with something he shouldn't his game could stand up for a very long time.
Heard similar things about Bubba. Some media outlet did a pre-Master's questionnaire for golfers and one of the questions was "_____ Got into a fight in the parking lot. You're not jumping in to help", and Bubba was by far the top response, lol.
Bubba's not liked because he's a hypocritical whiny little man. He wants attention but he wants to act like he's humble. He wants to swing a pink driver and drive the General Lee down Magnolia Lane but he doesn't think there should be a long drive competition in a practice round and he will hit a 3 iron even though he will hit driver there all week. He's just annoying and maybe Rickie in an exception, that whole little group is annoying and I really don't know how Phils expected to win with all of those guys sniffing his *** all week. They here Gary Player talk about Phil being there for them to hit the first tee shots and what happens? There they all are.
I know I'm in minority but that's what I've always kind of liked/respected about Tiger. He's not kissing anyone's *** to get ahead and he's out there to do one thing, and that's to win. Definitely some flaws there but in the events I have been to, there's not an appreciable personality difference between him and a lot of guys when the cameras aren't on. The difference is when they are on.
I think Tiger got(gets) a lot of flack because he was so standoffish to the press. If he faked it like everybody, he would be beloved by the general public, even with his recent stumblings on and off the course. Just look at Dustin Johnson, as much as I like the guy. If Tiger had similar failings he would be eviscerated. Instead reports are lobbing softball questions at him, asking him about how he's turned his life around.
Awhile back, I actually think Tiger was voted most liked by his peers (when he was still dominating), despite the media/fan perception that he's a pompous a-hole. Around the same time Phil was voted as one of the most hated. Kind of ironic how player perception and fan perception can be a total 180.
People shouldn't presume that they know these guys or anything that matters about them.
I liked when the guy interviewing DJ the other day tried to pin him down about cocaine.
He pretty much dodged it by going the, "I had a problem with drinking….yadda, yadda".
Of course the cynical in me says that answer means, "Yeah we'd get toasted and then find the guys who had the blow".
Anymore, pro golfers have grown up in a country club life. They have no real connection to most of the fans.
But back to the tournament. I just checked the weather channel and it looks like weather should not be an issue. At least for the majority of the day.

That's why John Daly is loved, although his life has been a train wreck.
The Euros have country clubs too, although they seem to be like the guys that will belly up to the bar with you all night and tell stories. They are out to make money and win tourney's but they are still enjoying life. Tiger, Spieth, Bubba, ect want to live in a vaccum...........which is fine, it is there job. They are just not guys i would want to hang out with.
Correct, they control everything - they also only have 4 min of commerical time every hour. They don't care about the money. Play by their rules or they will find someone that will.
Tiger won't be Tiger again until he gets back to being aggressive. He plays it to safe, especially on the greens. He use to ram putts in, and if they missed they would go 6 ft past. He didn't care though as he knew he was making the comeback putt. Now, he leaves every putt short. He's not hitting it great, but he is hitting it good enough to compete if he would just make a putt.

He is trying to make the cut, not win. He says he is playing to win, however he knows if he is aggressive he can blow up and shoot +10 and it will raise doubt if he is over. He plays conservative and shoots around par, he is making progress. He has not played competitive golf in months, in reality over a year.
If he would have played aggressive yesterday, he would have shot 85 - he had to play "safe" to keep it together.
My comment about him playing safe isn't just in this Masters (although I don't think he is intentionally leaving 11 ft putts short to make the cut). It's the way he has been playing for 6 years now. Irons, driver, putter....he use to attack everything. He use to attack pins, now he plays it safe. I know his driver was terrible for a while, but he would go to tournaments where he would hit 2 iron stingers all day off the tee instead of driver. Sure he hit it in the fairway, but his approach shot was 200 out while others were hitting a PW into the greens. You can't win tournaments doing that.
He needs to get back to the F it attitude. He might make some bogeys here or there, but he will have a lot easier birdies as well.
It's one thing I have grown to appreciate about Phil Mickelson (whom I use to dislike quite a bit). That guy goes for it, even now that he is older and his game isn't as good, he is still attacking the golf course.
I read an article in the SI and it was about Arnie Palmer, and of course he was asked about Tiger, and Arnie's comments something like, Tiger has never been the same since his Dad died. His Dad kept his head on straight, and gave him a regime and schedule to follow, and once he lost that, Tiger has been lost ever since. Arnie went on and say, could Tiger get 'it' (being to play like he used to play) back? He said yes, but Arnie did not think he ever will.
