***Official Bracketology Thread***

I've been surprised to see Creighton hanging in there that high as well. Take their trend without Watson across the entire season and they're not even a tournament team, let alone a 6 seed. I think the committee will be more critical of them than the pollsters have been.

Can Marquette play in Milwaukee as the host school? Isn't that what we ran into with DsM a year or two back? I'd still take Milwaukee in a heartbeat, even if we had to play Marquette. I think we could take that place over.
I'd be there

And Maryland just got torched on their home floor by Iowa. They're the worst high major team I've seen that has that kind of record.

Maryland is a perfect example on how the RPI has it's flaws and other metrics need to come into play. Their non con was weak and they benefited from the B1G's unbalanced schedule big time. Of the other 6 teams that are in the top half of the B1G standings they play one team twice. ONE!!!!! And that was Minnesota. Talk about a watered down schedule!

Small piece of historical trivia here... As we all know, Northwestern has never made an NCAA tournament. I believe they are the only high-major program (the P5 and the Big East) to have never done so. Most AAC schools probably have, too, if they count.

Earlier this year, they were rolling. Lately? Not so much.

Things are not looking too good all the sudden. Here is their schedule...

They need that Michigan game, even if they are slightly surging right now. Purdue would punch their ticket in all likelihood, but I would not bet on it.

They probably need a game within the Big Ten tournament in... WASHINGTON, DC? WF*!

That's a bummer for NW, but

That's unfortunate for them....I like seeing those kinds of stories unfold come tourney time.

They got the 'fold' part right.

Their game this past Saturday was an epic in failure.

Northwestern should be in.

Fun game vs. Michigan...ended on a hail mary to a lay up with about a second left.

Fun time of year.

If northwestern is in, I would love the clones to get them round 1. That team looks like a team ISU could dominate almost all over the court.

I'd like to see them get a win in NCAA tourney (not against ISU).

I'm pretty sure that would make NU the only high major without a win in the tourney.

No way, they have serviceable post players that we should've been using our schollies over the past few years in hopes of getting. Didn't you read Ernst Megathread? We can't compete with that.

I'm repeating but this kind of narrative leaves the chance for a select few ISU fans to feel awfully stupid after spending so much of the season trashing the B14.

Nothing is automatic ever and it certainly isn't in the NCAA tournament.

You are correct. Nebraska and Northwestern are the only BCS + Big East schools to have NEVER won a game in the NCAA tournament. UNL is 0-7 all time. Northwestern is 0-0.

I 100% agree that nothing is automatic, but from what I've seen out of NW (only a few games) they don't look that impressive. They could have had off nights those games though. I would want NW over Michigan St or Syracuse who are all around the same 10-11 line teams because they don't seem to have the elite level athletes or players who can take over the game at any time.

Lunardi now has us on the 6 line facing off against Providence 1st round.

I would accept that draw, gladly ... any of the 6 v 11 slots, actually. ... compare it to the 7/10 possibilities in his bracket, the challenge there would rise notably.

Arizona in round of 32 wouldn't be easy, but I'd probably prefer it to facing Duke (and no 6 is going to have an easy road vs. a 3 anyway).

One thing I'll add is if we beat WV on Friday i think we have a very good argument for a 5 seed or getting real close. Lunardi has WV as a 4 seed right now and their RPI is 24th and ISU is 28th. Now I would take a 4 seed all day over a 5/12 match up..I know this seems crazy but i really don't know if I want this team wining 3 games straight or playing 3 games straight in big 12 tourney..I think teams that play 3 straight games and win a tourney title really takes a lot out of teams heading into that first game if NCAA. Of course if that scenario were to happen this team would get a 4 seed i have no doubt..

As far as Lunardi bracket..I think that's a good bracket..KY is beatable..they play zero defense. Now they are very very talented on offense but they tend to play down to opponents a lot and are lazy on D. If they decide to play D then look out. But I'd rather play KY than Oregon all day. Of course if we are a 6 seed in that scenario we could play Arizona who honestly i have not watched much this year at all.
